It was announced a few days ago and for many it was no surprise, but NUFC women have a new director of women’s football with the arrival of Grace Williams an appointment that the hierarchy in the club is delighted.
Grace joins the club from Crystal Palace, where she has held the role of head of women’s football since May 2023, so that the Eagles can reach the Barclays Women’s Super League for the first time.
She started at Watford Women as general manager for two and a half years and supervised the promotion of Hornets to the championship in the 2020/21 season.
A short spell with FA Wales followed where she supported the restructuring of the football pyramid for women.
Grace then became operations manager at Bristol City Women and soon switched to the role of General Manager. She was responsible for reforming their football surgery and in her last season there the Robins promotion returned to the WSL.
Grace Williams said: “I am extremely proud to become a member of Newcastle United Women as director of women’s football.
“It is clear how ambitious this club is, and they have a clear vision of success, so it felt like the perfect fit for me.
“I can’t wait to get started and to help build on the really strong base that is already there.”
And does Williams already have an effect? It is reported on a large scale, especially from Anton Toloui from Sky Sports News that United almost signed a double World Cup winner.
United is apparently getting closer to completing the largest signing of the WSL2 transfer window because they are in conversation to sign Morgan Gautrat.
The American midfielder was part of the Orlando Pride Squad who won NWSL last season and also won 88 caps for the US.
If United decreases such a statement, Gautrat, a 32-year-old, would join Jordan Nobbs and Aoife Mannion as large signing sessions in Newcastle this summer. In a real declaration of intent for the upcoming WSL2 season.
