Newcastle 2 Liverpool 3 – Monday, August 25, 2025 8 p.m.
Instant fan / writer response from some of our regular contributors on the MAG.
Nat Seaton:
‘Difficult to put the feeling into words after what we have just experienced.
Absolutely stripped to lose, but so proud of everything that Newcastle united tonight. Players, management, fans, we were all in it together and produced something that made me grateful to be there.
They are Eddie’s and the players for the win in injury time, even with 10 men, Liverpool were the ones who withdrew, but we were done home again and they celebrated the goal as if they had won the Champions League!
We mix it with the so -called ‘top’ clubs and they don’t like it, but apply it.
Thank you Newcastle for a really great evening, we didn’t deserve to lose, but we will continue with hope for a great season that is coming. ‘
Gatoon:
‘The usual result. We have to have a man sent away, they have to hit the pole at least once and the ball goes inside.
Eroded for the boys.
They gave it all and were by far the better team.
Let’s not forget why Gordon played at the front. Hopefully that is not lost with our owners when the rats come back with another “offer”.
Bruno was absolutely fantastic. Beyond words.
But you always thought that 11 minutes was for 10 men and so it proved.
Last point. Ramsdale please. When a player forms his entire body to shoot in the corner, you expect the keeper to dive to that corner, don’t stand still. Again Pope stood still for their first. Shots go inside, but please make an attempt.
Let’s hope that Joelinton and Sandro are not too seriously injured. ‘
Billy Miller:
‘Incredible achievements with the opportunities stacked against us.
Those are two games that we have been by far the better team and we only have one point to show for it.
Something that is clear are the players we have, quality and determined and play with pride and passion.
We will have a good season.
Really happy Osula got a goal.
Dusty that we didn’t deserve a point.
Can someone explain where 11 minutes came from?
The moment the plate went up, I said we would admit in the 100th minute and of course we did that.
Let’s hope the injuries are not that bad and we get at least one striker before the window closes. ‘
Matt Busby said …:
“During the break I think,” game over “.
After Etitike’s goal I think: “We’re dead.”
Then, for a man, everyone in a black -white shirt that knows what a privilege it is to play in St James Park.
The fact that we lost after those boys have given everything is absolutely delighted. ‘
Tony Mallabar:
‘After that staircase in the Toon Halls of Luckypool. First of all, I would personally drive to Sunlun so that he can sign for them, only stop to pick up portions of cheese -like chips and rinse away with a flagon of blue Panda -pop.
Back to the game we should have been 4-0 before Luckypool scored.
Idiot Gordon is sent, but to come back to a desmond loss then, is complicated.
But that’s what good teams do to you. ‘
David Point:
‘A rather amazing opening evening in St James’ Park and the cliche ‘Cruel Game’ comes from the Almanac.
That was so hard.
There was just too much added time to see it with ten men after an exciting comeback.
A 16 -year -old steals the headlines with that 100th minute’s winner. Why so much added time nowadays? That was 2-2, all ending.
We also continue to count the costs.
Injury to Tonali and Joelinton have affected the game and we really have to talk about Anthony Gordon.
It is a big season for AG, and he picked his copybook from the Get Go. That red card was so expensive and stupid. He has to cut this out of his game.
We can be proud of the way the players have certainly responded, but that is now ten years since we have defeated Liverpool in St James’ Park.
I think the fecture computer has given us a difficult start to the season and the message on the board remains clear – a striker must come in before the deadline. ‘
