Jannik Sinner, who dropped his first set of the championships in the previous round, confirmed his position as a title defender, by swept aside by the dangerous Kazak, Alexander Biblic, in 81 minutes, 6-1 6-1 6-1 who could still feel the physical effects of winning a five-setter marathon with 14th Tom-Paul.
The victory sets an all-Italian confrontation for a semi-final place while Lorenzo Musetti, the 10th seed, Spain’s Jaume Munar 6-3 6-0 6-1 overcame in just 97 minutes.
But Sinner’s victory was all the more impressive because Bublik was expected to give him many problems, because he was the only player, apart from Carlos Alcaraz, who defeated the world no. 1 in the last 52 weeks.
Moreover, the Kazak was on an 11-match extraction streak and he had reached the fourth round at Flushing Meadows without dropping his serve, but against the sinner he made 13 double mistakes because he was overwhelmed by the best seed that broke him in the opening match.
