Former world no. 1 Naomi Osaka blended his way to an upset victory on 3rd Coco Gauff to reach the US Open quarterfinals on Monday and will record it on Wednesday Karolina Muchova for a place in the last 4 on Wednesday.
What I want to take away from this tournament is just smiling and having fun. In this competition I just wanted to be grateful. Yes, I mean, she is one of the best players in the world. For me, to be honest, I have the most fun when I play against the best players. Naomi Osaka
Osaka, a 4-way Grand Slam champion, dominated Gauff, 6-3 6-2, to reach her first Grand Slam Quarte final since 2021 after a 64-minute meeting for a packaged crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The Japanese produced almost flawless tennis, helped by the early nerves of Gauff and struggles with her service games.
“I was super locked up,” Osaka said afterwards. “I’ve just had so much fun here.”
Instagable for her emerging opponents, every time Osaka went to this phase in the past in a large championship, she eventually won the title.
“I just wanted a really chance to come here and play,” said Osaka, who last reached the US Open quarterfinals on the way to the title of 2020, when fans could not attend the tournament because of the pandemic. “Big thanks to my team. We have experienced a bit of a lot, and you know, it has not always been easy.”
Osaka was stable from the baseline and locked 8 of the first 9 points against Gauff, who tried to reach her 3rd US Open quarterfinals, but was shaky, sailed a second servant who returned for the Japanese to give an early break.
Subsequently, early double mistakes that the American had avoided in her 3rd round match also killed her game.
While he had to stay at 3-5 in the first set, Gauff 2 of her 5 double errors, including one set point, donated with 33 non-forced errors while he never saw a breaking point.

‘I thought that was a good achievement of mine, “Gauff said later.” From the ground I think I just made way too many mistakes, far too many mistakes, which I think was the part of my game that I felt most confidently to enter the tournament.
“It is disappointing. Certainly, it was not the level I wanted to bring, but it is a step in the right direction, I feel, and I think that emotional, how much was this week, I think, today I just came in and I might have been a bit empty.”
Gauff, the reigning Roland Garros champion and World No 3, has used to biomechanics specialist Gavin Macmillan to arrange her serving misery, and she said she is willing to sacrifice short-term results by playing the long game.
Her match with Osaka turned out to be a chastice affair, reminiscent of the memorable match between the two here 6 years ago, when the Japanese were at the height of her powers and a 15-year-old Gauff, 6-3 6-0, sent in a 3rd round match that ended with tears.
The difference now was that Gauff was sown here no. 3 and Osaka was no. 23.
“I mean, I am a bit sensitive – I don’t want to cry,” Osaka said afterwards. “To be honest, I had so much fun here. This is my favorite court in the world, and it means so much to be back here.”
The 27-year-old broke twice in the second set and won all 4 of her breaking points for the game, while at Serve 85% of her service points, 32 of 38, and from the back of the field she was vintage, limit herself to only 12 casual mistakes for the game.
In fact, it was the best match that Osaka played in years, and she is now the player who has been defeated in the bottom half of the draw.
“What I want to take away from this tournament is just smiling and having fun,” said Osaka. āIn this competition I just wanted to be grateful.
“Yes, I mean, she is one of the best players in the world. To me, to be honest, I have the best when I play against the best players.”

Osaka, who has won 7 titles, all of which have come on hard courts, will now meet no. 11 seed, Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic, for a place in the 2025 US Open Semi-final.
Muchova is a double US open semi-finalist and beats no. 27 Marta Kostyuk van Ukraine, 6-3 6-7 (0) 6-3, to reach the last 8, her 4th game that went the full distance of 3 sets.
She was seriously tested in each of her 3 earlier matches, first by Venus Williams, reinforced by the Pro-American crowd in Arthur Ashe Stadium, while she and Sorana Cirstea were in round 2 in round 2 to fight against her former Czech showers Linda Noskova to reach the last 16th.
On Monday, the Czech more physical challenges, including a medical time-out for back issues, conquered as the victor in the 2-hour, 53-minute match with different momentum fluctuations, where Kostyuk claimed that the second Set Tiebreeak to love to love rebound to win the decision maker.
“It was so physically, such a tough game, Marta was everywhere,” said Muchova in the stands after the game. āIt was really difficult, I just tried to fight for every point.
“And the energy of the crowd was great, thank you. I had struggled a bit, but tried to fight. I love this tournament, so I would just give it everything, and now I am standing here.”

The competition was full of drama, with its different momentum fluctuations, countless line -painted winners and a sprinkling of beautiful shots.
The 8 -minute opening match turned out to be an indication of how the game would play, with long, physical points and intense play from both sides of the field.
An early break in the second match, Muchova gave the only margin she needed to eventually store the first set after 51 minutes, but the physicality of her efforts began to catch up early in the second, so she was asked to take back the medical time-out to tackle problems with her after the 3rd game.
Kostyuk immediately followed with a break for a 3-1 lead, only to lose the next game and allow Muchova to come back to serve.
While the Muchova movement dropped slightly as the set progressed, the energy from Kostyuk rose to a different level, giving her the upper hand in the longer rallies.
The Czech remained stable and managed to hold completely to force a tiebreak, but a series of mistakes from her racket saw the second set slip away quickly when Kostyuk claimed that it is loving.
Muchova won her only breakpoint opportunity from the decision maker, because 2 consecutive mistakes of Kostyuk’s Backhand-Vleugel brought the Czech Republic, 3-1, which was the lead she needed, and a return that was sent for a long time from the Ukrainian to match the 11th seed to sigh a sigh trembling. Breathe to breathe a sigh of relief.
With the victory, Muchova is now 7-1 every time she played in a Grand Slam round of 16, but in the course of the game Kostyuk hit 44 winners to the Czech 20.
However, the test is only becoming more difficult, because Muchova stands opposite Osaka for a place in the semi -final, the two have divided their only 4 meetings, with the Japanese claiming the last victory earlier this year in the 3rd round of the Australian Open.
