Canada Gabriela Dabrowski & Erin Routliffe from New Zealand, won their 2nd US Open Doubles title in 3 years at Flushing Meadows after disturbing the best seeds, Czech Republic Siniakova & Taylor Townain, 6-4 6-4, in Friday Entertainment.

In it, what a wild ride! It was absolutely crazy. We have experienced so much together and I am extremely grateful that I am standing next to you today as a champion. It means the world. Thank you for staying with me, thank you for the support – and yes, we will continue to rumble. Gabriela Dabrowski

“We clearly love New York,” said Routliffe. “For the fans who came to us today and watched us – there were certainly many people here today who cheer for women’s doubles – we are absolutely fond of all involvement, so thank you very much for coming out.”

The result ended the whirlwind run of Townsend in New York One Win Shar of what would have been the 3rd Grand Slam championship of the American with Siniakova.

The 33-year-old Dabrowski, the 33-year-old Dabrowski, and her 30-year-old partner, Routliffe, who grew up in Canada but was grown up in Canada but represents New Zealand, not only had a 2nd Grand Slam title together to celebrate, but also the first major triumph of Dabrowski since the treatment of treatment.

Last year she underwent 2 operations and a series of recovery treatments, while they all continued to play tennis, and she also delayed part of her treatment to compete in Wimbledon, where she and Routliffe reached the final, and the Paris Olympic Games.

Siniakova & Townsend wanted to add an American open title to their CV after winning Wimbledon last year and the Australian Open in January, and had arrived in the final without losing a set.

The world doubles no. 1, Townsend, became one of the faces of the tournament, thanks to a fight after the match early in the play that she wished never happened.

Townsend, who is black, said that her Latvian opponent Jelena Ostapenko had told her that she had ‘no class’ and ‘no education’, an interaction that became a hot social media topic, with questions if the comments had racial undertone.

The 29-year-old said she did not go so well and acknowledged: “That has been a stigma in our community of ‘not trained’ and, all things, when it is furthest in the truth.”

Townsend’s online follows grew exponentially, received support from fellow players, while Ostapenko subsequently apologized on social media, and English quoted her first language for what she thought to mean tennisiquette.

The American reached the 4th round in Singles, lost to the Czech Barbora Krejcikova after not converting 8 match points and missing her chance to reach her first solo quarterfinals in a major.

In the doubles, Siniakova & Townsend reached the final on a Grand Slam for the 5th time, on the way eliminating Venus Williams & Leylah Fernandez to end their much overspreaded wildcardrun.

Playing back at the age of 45, Williams and her 22-year-old partner, Fernandez, attracted large crowds in Louis Armstrong Stadium as important fan favorites.

Just as they did in their first title run, Dabrowski & Routliffe pulled an upset in the final and defeated the top couple in an hour and 29 minutes on Friday to claim the trophy.

In addition, Dabrowski & Routliffe threw their Straight sets loss for Siniakova & Townsend in the final of 2024 Wimbledon and there was $ 1 million in prize money.

“Taylor, Kat, you are a great team,” said Routliffe during the trophy presentation. “We have had many fights, and I am sure we will have a lot more in the future. Congratulations on a great tournament – you did a great job.

“I want to thank Gaby. We have had a long partnership so far, and I am so grateful to you. We won our first SLAM here two years ago and to win again two years later is so exciting. I am very, very happy that I can play with you.”

Dabrowski opened the match with a winner of the Stick Volley, and set the tone, such as Siniakova & Townsend, usually enormously insured on the grid, could not respond to the rapid reflexes of their opponents in the beginning.

After the first 5 games were employed, Dabrowski & Routliffe earned the first breaking point of the match at the Serve of Townsend and took it to give them the opportunity to serve for the set, but the no. 1 seeds immediately earned 4 breakpoints of their own, and the American placed a foreign volley in the tramlines.

Siniakova & Townsend served on 4-5 to level the score, did not take to take advantage, because 2 non-forced errors and a Czech double errors gave the 3rd seeds triple set-point before Routliffe fired a return to Townend, which she could only send from the court.

The mistakes took place for Siniakova & Townsend in the second set, and although they were so clean with their shots in the previous rounds, in the championship match, casual mistakes had to be freer.

Dabrowski & Routliffe ran to a 3-0 lead in the second and appeared well on the way to victory, but again, Siniakova & Townsend did not make it easy, won 3 straight matches and produced the point of the competition when the Czech showed the Ashe Stadium.

She played a brilliant point down on 3-4 and ended with a backhand winner that fans let in, all part of an 18-point game of 9 minutes that ended with the best seeds to deliver the set on 4-all.

However, that was all they had left in the tank, and Dabrowski & Routliffe closed the game by winning the last 2 games to complete the championship, when Routliffe Deef a smart return, which she could only raise high in the air.

It landed beyond the baseline and Dabrowski jumped up to share a long hug with Routliffe in celebration.

I could retire tomorrow and be very happy with my career, and my friendships, and all the relationships I have built up over the years. So I’m really good now as a person.”

For the champions it is the highlight of a trip back to the circle of the winner after challenges in the field of health and injuries.

Routliffe also had her part of the challenges for injuries, because, after the couple had won the seasonal 2024 WTA Tour final in Riyad, Saudi Arabia, she had a broken rib as a result of coughing of bronchitis.

Dabrowski suffered the same injury in February of this year and they tried to play the ailments, but the results were not in the material.

At Indian Wells they lost in the round of 16, while at the Miami Open did not win a competition, and the pain of Dabrowski in the ribs increased during the Klei-Court Swing that led to the couple that the French opening missed a 2nd year in a row.

It started to look for Wimbledon’s double team, where they reached the quarterfinals before they lost from the final champions Elise Mertens & Veronika Kudermetova.

Then the couple won the Cincinnati Masters, their 6th title together, directly for the US Open.

“I have a lot of gratitude for our partnership, for everyone behind the scenes that makes the partnership better,” said Dabrowski.

“In it, what a wild ride! It has been absolutely crazy. We have experienced so much together and I feel extremely grateful that I am standing next to you today as a champion. It means the world. Thanks for holding on to me, thanks for the support – and yes, we rock on.”
