New York City FC V Charlotte FC: “We don’t feel busy,” says Byrne – Soccer News

Nathan Byrne insisted that Charlotte FC “feels no pressure” in the midst of their MLS -winning series.

Charlotte won each of their last nine MLS matches, a competition record, after they had defeated 10-man Inter Miami 3-0 in their previous match.

Byrne was injured for the first four wins of their current run, but the defender returned after the break of the League Cup and started with each of the last five games of Charlotte.

The side of Dean Smith is confronted with a tough task in their next fixture while they travel to New York City FC.

NYCFC has won four of their last five games in the competition and are only three points behind Charlotte in the Eastern Conference, with a competition in hand.

Despite the strong form of NYCFC, Byrne is convinced that Charlotte can expand their winning series.

“I think we have already insisted on people’s expectations, so we don’t really feel busy there,” said Byrne.

“It’s just about doing as much as possible if we can do during the week to show that at the weekend.

“I think the manager helps a lot with that; he is never confused and he never looks under pressure. He keeps the boys calm and we are a confident group, so we know we can beat someone on our day.

“While I was injured, I think it was definitely the most difficult part of the schedule, because you are on the road, non-stop, two to three weeks at a time, so it would never be easy.

“The thing you can take from this team is that they will always give 100% and whether we win, lose or draw, we will fight. I think that character has brought us where we are now.”
