Bali, October 1, 2025 – Mr Tommy Paulus Hermawan was elected President of the Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (Gamma) by 58 members during the General Assembly in Bali, Indonesia, on Monday, September 29, 2025. He succeeds Alexander Engelhardt, who will follow the newly created role of the President of the Executive Council. This transition is part of structural reforms designed to further strengthen Gamma’s leadership.
TP Hermawan, a young Indonesian entrepreneur, also serves as president of Pertacami, the National Federation of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) in Indonesia, where he played a crucial role in the national sport. Under his leadership, Pertacami provided recognition of the National Olympic Committee of Indonesia and successfully organized the Gamma World Championships in Jakarta last December, in which he welcomed more than 600 athletes from more than 60 countries.
The General Meeting collected delegates from 58 member federations, who have approved a new constitution that includes the relocation of the Gamma headquarters from the Netherlands to Switzerland and the establishment of a treasurer position. These reforms mark an important step forward in improving transparency, stability and the international profile of the organization.
In his first speech as President, TP Hermawan paid tribute to the dedicated leadership of Engelhardt and the many milestones that were reached during his term of office, and called a solid foundation for the future. He also outlined his vision to promote Gamma’s legitimacy as a globally recognized sport in harmony with Olympic values, while placing athlete welfare in the heart of the agenda through a dedicated training and education center.
“With the reforms that have been approved today and the unity of our members, Gamma goes into a new era. I am humiliated by the trust placed in me and determined to continue our journey to global recognition and empowerment of athlete,” TP Hermawan said.
Engelhardt, who thinks about his new role, welcomed the transition: “I am proud of everything we have achieved so far and convinced that Gamma will achieve new heights together with Tommy. As chairman of the board, I look forward to supporting this next chapter and guaranteeing our vision of a real worldwide sports sport.”
Before the end of the general meeting, TP Hermawan outlined his vision to raise MMA to the next level by establishing the Gamma Arena and the establishment of a sustainable ecosystem for all members. Delegates were also informed about the recording of cognitive athletics within Gamma, the current recognition process for MMA with the alliance of independent recognized members of Sport (AIMS) and the development plan for civil servants.
