The Guildford Flames returned to the ice this week after a busy few days with player inductions, a media day and a Supporters Q&A.
Head coach Paul Dixon is preparing to lead a renewed selection in the 2025/26 campaign, with a number of players new in both Guildford and the Elite League. He gave us his thoughts in the new season:
“We are all very enthusiastic to get back to work. We made some changes in the summer and look forward to seeing how this new look team comes together.
We have a two -week training camp ahead. It is about becoming familiar with the new boys, putting our systems in place and strengthening what is expected of us: that Guildford brand of hockey. The goal is to leave everyone in and on as quickly as possible.
We have changed more than half of the schedule this year, so it is really a new team. Last season, with the injury crisis that we have undergone, I don’t think I will ever have a year like it, but after a long summer we can’t wait to get back to work. “
The Flames plays three pre-season matches, starting with the home collision of this weekend against French side Amiens.
“You can train and practice for hours, but nothing replicates a game situation,” Dixon continued. “It will be good to be confronted with Amiens and help the boys shake off the rust. From there we go to the second week of the camp before we play Cardiff and Coventry, and then we are immediately in competition action against Nottingham and Sheffield.”
