Johannes wanted to let go and three wide on the way to the piece on the way to a clear path to catch the leaders. From there, Johannes took home to a win of 1/4 length over Cabo Spirit in 1: 34.13. Almendares closed from the last to finish a head behind Cabo Spirit in third place.
The victory gave trainer Tim Yakteen what he wanted for Johannes.
“You don’t want the tiring efforts that you don’t allow to come back,” said Yakteen. “Five weeks between races is a great timing and a kind of one is for the same schedule that we had last year. He is the dream of a trainer.”
