Nets tie franchise record with 45-point loss to Giannis Antetokounmpo-less Buck

It was a perfect night for the Nets, who rolled around on the floor laughing with every available rookie on the floor.

Brooklyn dominated Milwaukee 127-82 on Sunday night in an all-out effort in front of 16,439 at Barclays Center.

The win tied their biggest win in franchise history, comparable to a 45-point loss to Washington on January 9, 1993.

Jordi Fernandez was not there, the Nets head coach was ill with the flu.

But an effort like this from his young team likely left him in good spirits, with the lead as high as 45 and four of their record five first-round picks coming late on the floor as they held the Bucks scoreless for six minutes.

All five Brooklyn starters reached double figures for the second time this season.

They were led by Egor Dëmin after the lottery pick was punished by Fernandez for careless, ill-advised mistakes in Dallas on Friday.

The Russian teenager came back with 17 points on 6-for-7 shooting.

He even had three strong drives to the rim and played spirited defense with two steals, a block and a plus-20.

With assistant Steve Hetzel replacing Fernandez, the Nets improved to 7-18 and have now won four of their last six.

Of note to the pro-tank crowd is that Brooklyn is just 1-14 against winning teams, but is now 6-4 against losing teams.

That’s relevant because with so many teams tanking this season, they’re going to face a lot of sorry teams the rest of the way.

The Nets remained sixth in the lottery standings, one game ahead of victorious Charlotte.

Noah Clowney had 16 points and Brooklyn shot 52.9 percent, while the Giannis Antetokounmpo-less Bucks were throttled to just 39.2.

Brooklyn led just 19-18 after Myles Turner’s free throw with 5:19 left in the first.

That’s when they put together an extended 26-9 run that spanned the first and second quarters and blew the game open.

By the time Danny Wolf came in for a layup eight minutes later, the rookie had padded Brooklyn’s cushion to 45-27 with 9:15 left in the first half.

They just built on that in the second.

Milwaukee dominated the second half against Boston on Thursday, but was mauled by the Nets.

The Bucks fell to 2-8 without Antetokounmpo, who injured his calf in a win over the Pistons on Dec. 3.
