The Brooklyn Nets have recalled their first-round pick from the G League, recalling Long Island’s Nolan Traore on Thursday, and there’s a chance the rookie could get minutes right away.
The 19th overall selection showed up well during his time in the G League, averaging 18.8 points and 6.4 assists in 13 appearances while knocking down more than 43 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc.
Head coach Jordi Fernandez highlighted what was immediately noticeable about Traore’s play.
“His superpower is speed,” Fernandez said, pointing out how quickly the young guard can influence the pace of play.
The coach also praised Traore’s confidence as a shooter, noting that he took and made shots without hesitation, something the coaching staff wanted to see.
In addition to scoring, Fernandez emphasized growth in other areas of Traore’s game. He said the rookie has worked on becoming louder on the floor, an important trait for a point guard, and acknowledged that he struggled with turnovers early on.
Fernandez emphasized that mistakes are part of development, adding that the most important thing is how a player reacts.
Recently, Traore has shown improvement in that area, posting strong assist-to-turnover figures in his last few games, leaving the coaching staff encouraged by his progress.
