Neeraj Chopra today officially starts his Diamond League 2025 campaign, May 16 in Doha. Here is everything you need to know about the Javelin Throw event.
The Indian athletics star Neeraj Chopra will start his 2025 campaign in the Qatar Sports Club in Doha today. The former Olympic gold medal winner will compete in the Doha stage of the Diamond League, confronted with a formidable line -up of athletes.
In particular in the Doha Diamond League, the Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan will reign, which means that fans will miss the expected matchup between Chopra and Nadeem.
During the press conference before the event, Neeraj discussed questions about his friendship with Arshad. The dual Olympic medal winner acknowledged that their relationship was influenced by the recent India-Pakistan stresses after the terror attack of Pahalgam, which indicates a shift in their dynamics.
“First of all, we were never really good friends or something. And things will not be the same after this (referring to the recent Indo-Pak stresses) but when someone talks respectfully with me, I answer the respect,” Chopra said reporters in Doha.
“Yes, as a athlete we have to talk, I have some good friends from the athlete community from all over the world, not only in Javelin Throw, but also other events. If someone talks to me respectfully, I will also talk to him with full respect.
Neeraj’s primary focus will be on winning the victory at the Doha Diamond League, rather than his competitor, Arshad.
