The NBA and the Players’ Association support the setting of limits for certain types of prop betting to reduce the risk of manipulation and abuse of athlete by dissatisfied gamblers.
“Protecting the integrity of our game is of the utmost importance, and we believe that reasonable limitations should be considered on certain prop betting,” a NBA spokesperson said in a statement to ESPN. “Every approach must be aimed at reducing the risk of performance manipulation, while they ensure that fans want to place those Prop bets, can continue to do so through legal, regulated markets.”
Jontay Porter was previously banned from the NBA in April 2024 because of the manipulation of his Stat line in two games.
Terry Rozier and Malik Beasley have also been investigated as part of a federal gambling investigation, although both have not been charged.
The NBA asked SportsBooks not to allow gamblers to conduct the Under on Prop Bets for players on two -way contracts.
The NBA sees Porter’s case as an isolated incident, although the NBPA is concerned about the intimidation with which athletes are confronted with gamblers.
“[Players] are worried that Prop bets have become an ever -alarming source of harassment for players, both online and personally, “said a NBPA spokesperson in a statement to ESPN.” If stricter regulations can minimize that abuse, we will support them in more detail. “
