Navy blue (Anders Blauwsteen) got off to a late start to win the Open Handicap Trot at Bally’s Dover on Tuesday evening.

Last Glow had his usual high speed, flying at a fast 28.1 over a damp surface past the opening quarter. Indy Be Quick secured pocket position.

Driver Jack Parker Jr was able to take advantage of the single-file lineup, cutting Last Glow’s speed by half at 57.2, a quarter of 29.1.

Last Glow maintained a comfortable lead entering the back stretch. Victor Laszlo mounted an attack and raced over first. Navy Blue, the 6/5 betting favorite, countered with a 2nd over push but was covered as the field approached three quarters in a souped-up 1:26 and 28.3 third quarter.

At the highest point of the piece, Last Glow tired legs. Victor Laszlo seized the opportunity and drove past the pace setter. Navy Blue charged hard in the deep stretch and managed to win by a margin in 1:55.2. He paid $4.40 for the win. Victor Laszlo finished 2nd. Last Glow came 3rd.
