Nationals hire the 35-year-old Red Sox-Exec Paul Toboni to lead baseball operations

The Front Office of Nationals gets a new – and relatively young person – look.

Washington hired Red Sox Senior Vice President/Assistant General Manager Paul Taboni as their new head of baseball activities, Joel Sherman van de Post confirmed.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan First broke the news.

The Nationals now have the basis for a renewed Front Office after they have fired the old general manager Mike Rizzo – and manager Davey Martinez – in July.

The Tim Healey of the Boston Globe reported Last week that Toboni was taken into consideration to become the general manager of Red Sox and to work directly as Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow’s no. 2.

Instead, after 10 years in the Red SOX organization and various roles from trainee to scout to assistant -GM, Toboni now inherits a National Team that has been deposited since winning the World Series in 2019.

Since winning it all in an Cinderella run, Washington has not had any winning season and plays his fifth consecutive year with 90-plus losing.

The Nationals have three top 100 prospects on MLB pipeline Short stop Eli Willits and right-handed Jarlin Susana and Travis Sykora and their agricultural system as a whole ranking in a number of lists, Sitting at No. 23 on MLB.com and one C-degree for the year on Baseball America.

Toboni was part of a front office in Boston that helped to reverse that Minor League system and has already made their Big League debut this year’s Minor Top-100 prospects Roman Anthony, Kristian Campbell, Marcelo Mayer and Payton Tolle.

Toboni will have his work cut for him, especially now in the same division with heavy spenders in the Mets and Phillies.
