It has just been revealed that we will see Eli Willits start his professional career this season. The number one overall choice is on the way to the Low-a Fredericksburg Nationals to start his professional career. Because Willits is only 17 years old, this is a bit of a surprise, but it shows that the organization has the feeling that it is ready for the challenge.
A little more than a month ago, the Washington Nationals Willits made the youngest first general choice in the design program history. With more famous names such as Ethan Holliday and Kade Anderson, the choice was a bit of a surprise. With the lower deal, however, the Natts led to sign Willits, they were able to make many other large splashes in the draw.
It would be a bad service to simply consider Willits as a money saving. He is a big prospect in itself. The Nationals thought he was on the same layer as Holliday. He has a polished game that is much further than his years. Willits is a switch Hitter with a Natural feeling to hit From both sides of the plate. He is also a good runner and a very good defensive short stop.
However, this is still a major challenge for the young person. Willits will be one of the youngest players in the full season of the ball to pitchers who are much older and are more physically mature than him. Willits is used to this. He was intended to be in high school class 2026, but again classified this year. Eli Willits has always been the youngest man in the team.
Since he comes to the organization, Willits has received some big praise. Second round pick and former South Carolina -Ster Ethan Petry called Willits one of the best shortstops he had ever played. Petry has played with many shortstops that are much older and mature than Willits, so that is big praise.
Coming from a baseball family and skills that pay the bills, the NATS feel the feeling that Willits is ready for a big challenge. This is unusual that they are dealing with a high school player. Normally they wait until the next season until they play Pro Ball. Mike Debartolo and the company, however, clearly find that Willits is both physically and mentally ready.
That mental side is the key to me. They must know that Willits is wired in the right way and is able to respond if he fails. This is a big step further from the baseball of Oklahoma High School, so there is a chance that he stumbles out of the gate. He is a boy who will play against adult men.
Even if he has some teething problems, this assignment makes me very enthusiastic. It shows me that the people who have seen him in the National Organization like what they see. They feel that the 17 -year -old has the talent and maturity to get a huge challenge.
It would have been easy to just wait until next year before he gave him this assignment. However, they have now gone for it. That shows me that the Nationals think that Eli Willits is both super talented and adult after his years. This is an exciting day for National fans.
