My love affair with Govee floor lamps hasn’t slowed down and Amazon has them heavily discounted this Black Friday

Govee has made a name for itself in the smart lighting industry as an affordable alternative to other brands, such as Philips Hue. So when I decided to upgrade my old traditional lighting to smart bulbs, panels and switches, the colorful Govee RGBIC floor lamp (recently replaced by the floor lamp 2) was an easy choice for my living room. Why? I wanted something vertical that fit nicely into the space and a look that was different from a typical round smart bulb to an average lamp.

Since I bought it, my living room has gotten even spicier with the addition of the Govee Uplighter. It’s another floor lamp, but instead of casting light on the wall, it spreads across the ceiling in a beautiful wavy effect.

Like most smart lighting, the Govee Floor Lamp 2 uses RGB LEDs to provide virtually any color you want. My family chose greenery to complement the greenery in our living room, but it also changes depending on the time of day. What I like about this lamp is its low profile: you can barely see it – just a small base and a thin line of metal. The focus is on the light instead of the structure.

The uplighter has a similarly thin aesthetic with the addition of a bulbous head to cast light onto the ceiling. It looks very different from the Floor Lamp 2, because it is less subtle. If you place it at the right angle, it can cover 215 square feet of ceiling space, casting undulating lights over a huge area. It’s like sitting under the Northern Lights or, if you use the green-blue environment, sitting under the ocean and looking up at the sky. It is soothing and now a big part of my rest time.

Another big selling point for both lights is their connection to other Govee products. It’s a lot of fun to have all your lights working in sync with a movie like Dune or Mad Max: Fury Road. Even without backlighting, you can easily control all your lights with one app or Alexa and Google Assistant. I love The Martian, and watching it in 4K with the backlight and rippling orange light from the Uplighter makes the whole experience more immersive.

Are Govee floor lamps good gifts?

As a big fan of Govee products, I think their lighting makes an excellent gift for others and yourself. If you know someone’s decor style well, the floor lamp would be an excellent choice because it has such a sleek profile that it would fit in any room I can imagine. The Uplighter is a little different, so make sure your giftee likes these types of light shows.

Otherwise, an ultra-portable, color changing Govee table lamp which has both personal tap controls and app controls on the device is also a big winner, as the person lucky enough to receive the lamp can bathe themselves in the glow of virtually any color combination and pattern they can think of. My buying advice

Without a discount, the Tall and Thin Smart Floor Lamp 2 is a bit of an investment at $165, but it’s still significantly cheaper than a Philips Hue equivalent. All three colors are currently on sale on Amazon for $100. The Uplighter has also been reduced in price to $126, and they both use the Matter smart home protocol. This makes them both a great investment in the future of your smart home.
