My journey to qualify for the 2026 BCBC

One qualifying tournament per week, for 52 weeks. Can I qualify for my first BCBC in 2026?

Kevin Gazzale

In 2020, I became a more avid horse racing fan. It culminated in the 2020 Breeders’ Cup, which was actually the first time I saw and bet on the event. I quickly became interested in the BCBC, but obviously couldn’t afford the $10,000 entry fee at the time I was determined to qualify for the 2021 edition via the low-level feeders on Horseplayers.com. I started playing the $20 feeders during the week in hopes of qualifying for the instant qualifiers on the weekend.

In 2021 I struck out, I made it to the weekend qualifiers, but never really got close. In 2022, I came desperately close in February, finishing just outside qualifying after being left hanging in the final race at Santa Anita. I need the 9 to win the replay below.

In 2023, 24 and 25 I didn’t come close. However, I am determined to buck the trend.

Over the next year, I invite you to follow me from a $20 qualifier to a $10,000 all-expense paid entry to the 2026 BCBC. I’ll be competing in the $20 BCBC Feeder Qualifier at a track of your choice (usually NYRA or Santa Anita). If I don’t qualify for the weekend tournament feeder, I’ll try again the following Friday. I will continue this weekly until I qualify. This Friday I start my journey, I will update every Thursday evening with my selections and philosophy behind my choices. If I can advance to a qualifier on Saturday, I’ll post my picks that morning, why, and track my progress.

I’m excited and looking forward to next year, hopefully it won’t last all year (it will). See you Thursday evening!
