Trevan Sanusi is on loan to France this season.

Newcastle United’s exciting teenager joins Lorient for this 2025/26 season.

After promotion from the second tier as champions, Lorient have done well and are now ninth in Ligue 1.

However, things are not going well for Trevan Sanusi.

Although his loan spell has been blighted by injury, rather than simply being sidelined by his loan club, as is the case with a number of Newcastle United’s young players on loan this season.

Now finally fully fit, Trevan Sanusi is starting to get some first-team football and will be hoping to finish the season on a positive note again.

Lorient will play their last 16 French Cup matches against Paris FC tonight and with a goal and an assist in a previous round, the loanee from Newcastle United will be hoping for more involvement in both the cup and the league in the coming weeks and months.

Ahead of tonight’s match against Paris FC, the 18-year-old was interviewed by Receive French football news and he has stated what his longer-term plan (and dream) is.

Trevan Sanusi says: “Obviously my dream is to play for Newcastle United, to break through there [first team] team and being part of that first team. I think Eddie Howe is very strict and has high standards, but I feel like when I’m there he tries to push me, and I feel like that’s part of the reason I came here to develop. [with Lorient].”

The teenager won’t turn 19 until April and still has plenty of time.

Trevan Sanusi adds: “And hopefully when I go back [to Newcastle United]I just have to keep doing what I’m doing and try to break into the team as much as possible.”

Like I said, the exciting talent has time on his side.

The young winger certainly looks like he has the potential to one day make it at first-team level.

Time will tell whether he does or not. However, he definitely looks to be one of the most exciting players Newcastle United have picked up since taking over, with the right investment in the youth side. Trevan Sanusi joined from his hometown club Birmingham City in 2023.

An England Under-18 international, he made his professional debut aged 17 in Newcastle’s victory over Bromley in the FA Cup last season.

It’s a real shame that the injury has affected him so much during this move at a very decent level in Ligue 1.

However, Trevan Sanusi is already planning ahead and is ready to take whatever steps are necessary to advance his career: “If I have to borrow again and do the same thing again, I’m up for the challenge. And a return to Ligue 1? Absolutely. I think coming back would be great too.”
