What was your first memory of opening the US open as a child?
It saw my mother play the senior doubles. I would open the US if I was very young because my mother would play the seniors.

What are your first memories of playing there yourself?
They were the juniors for me. I got a wildcard in the qualification of the juniors and I was pumped to play. I was nervous because I had not played many world events, with players from other countries, so I thought the boys I was going to play would be the best players ever. I didn’t hope to be defeated really badly.

About Arthur Ashe Stadium, which court would you rather play at?
Louis Armstrong Stadium, certainly. Armstrong just feels like my court.

What is the best match you played at the US Open?
It is hard to say because I don’t feel that I once played a game in the open air where I played from my mind. I think I played very well [Matteo] Berrettini in the second round last year. That was one of the best matches I played.

What were your first impressions of the US Open as a player?
I remember how busy everything was, because early in the tournament when everyone is there, it can be super busy in the player’s area. I was just so happy to be there. I remember how packed it was on the side with the big stands, such as Court 12 or Court 7. It was really cool.

What do you think of New York City?
I have never really loved the city, but I am enjoying it for the two weeks that we are there, that is perfect. The time we are there for the open is a good time to be in the city.

What does a day off in the city look like?
I would probably prefer to stay, chill and play video games, but if I went out and do something, I would cycle through Central Park.

Is there something that you associate with the US Open?
Honey deuce [cocktails]That is the big thing in the open air.
