If you have been following me for a while, you know that I am a big fan of clean food and avoid unnecessary additives in my food. I have been on a mission for years to cut out ultra-processed food and simplify what is going in my body. And let me tell you – Malmond Milk was one of the secret ‘health food’ that was not as clean as it claimed.
I have always loved almond milk. It is light, refreshing and easy on the stomach. But when I started to turn those boxes and read the ingredient labels – Jages.
What I thought was a simple drink based on nuts, turned out to be loaded with gums, preservatives, oils and other ingredients that I could not pronounce. That was my wake-up call.
So I went on a mission to go back to basics. Real food. Fewer ingredients.
And thanks to one life-changing discovery-I make my own almond milk at home in just one minute. Yes, a minute. No weeks. No mess. Just clean, delicious almond milk with two ingredients: almonds and water.
Let me tell you how I got here.
Why you have to reconsider in the store purchased almond milk
It is easy to assume that almond milk from the store is healthy – and to be honest, it can Be better than sugary dairy alternatives. But the more I have learned, the more I realized that a lot of almond milk purchased in the store are highly processed.
Most are filled with:
- Thickeners and gums (such as CARRANGEEN or Gellan Gum))
- Preservatives to extend the shelf life
- “Natural flavors” (never sure what that is?)
- Added sugars or artificial sweeteners
- Low actual almond content (some brands use Only 2% almonds))
This is not to scare you – just to empower you. Because if you know better, you can do better. And that is exactly what led me to find a better way.
Nutritional benefits of almonds (and almond milk!)
Let’s not forget why we keep almonds in the first place! These small powerhouses are loaded with healthy fats, vitamin E, vegetable protein and are a good source of fiber. They support heart health, help to balance blood sugar levels and offer antioxidant protection.
When you make your own almond milk at home, you get a much more nutrient version than the weakened, additive stuffed boxes from the store. No fillers, no preservatives – only the natural goodness of almonds and water.
Bonus: Homemade almond milk is easier on the intestine for many women who struggle with digestion or inflammation. You skip all those emulsifiers and gums that can cause bloating or discomfort. Making your own clean version of almond milk can be a great way to improve your intestinal health!
I thought making almond milk would be difficult … Until I found almond cow
Here is the thing. I used to assume that making almond milk was a long, messy, intimidating process. Only weeks of weeks, blending, blending through a nut milk bag … I mean, who has time for that?
But then I found the almond cow – and my entire perspective changed.
This machine is a total game changer. You throw in your almonds (no soaked required!), Add water, press a button – and in less than a minute you have fresh, creamy almond milk. I was like “what”? I was seriously surprised !! It’s too simple!
It makes about 5-6 cups per batch, stays fresh in the fridge for 5 to 6 days and tastes great. It is pure, light and has the real nutty taste that you simply can’t get from a box.
In addition to almond milk you can make any type of nut milk. I often make pistachio milk because my family likes it in Icelattes- it’s decadent.
For all my nut milk I add a bit of vanilla and monk fruit sweet and keep it in the glass jar that I got with the almond cow.
How to make almond milk using the almonde step for step
Making almond milk with the almond cow is as simple as it becomes. No weeks, no tension, no mess.
Here is how it works:
1. Add almonds to the filter basket
- Measure 1 cup of raw almonds and place them in the metal filter basket.
- Attach the basket to the top of the machine.
2. Fill the base with water
- Pour 5-6 cups of filtered water into the base of the almond cow (there is a filling line for reference).
- Optional: Add a pinch of sea salt or a dash of vanilla extract to the water if you like your milk with a small taste.
3. Attach the top and connect it
- Turn the upper knife confirmation in the base.
- Connect the machine – you are ready to go!
4. Press the button
- Press the cow icon on the front of the machine. It will just run about 1 minute.
- You hear a few cycles while combining the milk and extracting.
Enjoy your fresh almond milk!
- Once it is ready, pour the milk into a glass jar or container and cool.
- Save a maximum of 5-6 days in the fridge.
Use or save the pulp
- Spoon out the remaining almond pulp and use it. See my suggestions below.
How I use homemade almond milk in my daily life
I now always keep a batch of homemade almond milk in my fridge. It has become a staple in so many of my daily habits:
To be honest, once you taste the difference, you never want to go back.
Bonus: What to do with the remaining almond pulp
One thing that I like about the almonde is that nothing is lost. After you have made your almond milk, you have no almond pulp. You can throw it away or you can use it for other use.
Here are some of my go-to ideas:
- Add it to smoothies for extra fiber
- Mix in oatmeal or yogurt bowls
- Use in homemade granola or energy foods
- Mix in fried products such as muffins or cookies
- Or dry it out and turn it into almond flour
It is part of my philosophy “no-waste, real food” and it feels so good to use every part of the note.
Why this one small change matters
I know it may sound little, but switching to home -made almond milk is one of those little things that add. It is a less ultra-processed food in your life. Another way to feed your body with real ingredients; It takes a minute to make; And an empowerment that has taken over control over your health.
