Munoz to undergo surgery, Mateta also absent for Palace trip to Shelbourne – Soccer News

Daniel Munoz is due to undergo surgery on a knee injury and Jean-Philippe Mateta has not traveled with Crystal Palace for their Conference League match at Shelbourne, Oliver Glasner said.

Wing-back Munoz was absent as the Eagles beat Fulham 2-1 in the Premier League on Sunday and will now face a short spell on the sidelines, although Glasner is hopeful this will not be a long-term problem.

Meanwhile, French striker Mateta is also struggling with a knee problem and Palace boss Glasner did not want to take the risk with his condition.

However, he is hopeful that Mateta will be able to train again at the end of this week.

“They both stayed home. It’s bad news,” said Glasner, whose team is in 18th place in the standings after four games.

“We will miss Dani for a few weeks, he will have an operation. JP will rest. We have to take care of his knee, so he stayed home.”

“When you have an operation, you always never know. We are always careful. It doesn’t look that serious. We still have ten games until January 10, so this is our challenge for this group.”

“The plan is for JP to return to training on Friday and he should be available then.”

Palace may be making the short trip to Ireland for their latest European venture, but Glasner confirmed there is one local delicacy he definitely doesn’t want to partake in while he’s there.

“Sorry to everyone, but I don’t like Guinness!” Glasner joked.

“I played here many years ago with Austria Under-21. Unfortunately we lost, I remember that. I tried a Guinness afterwards and unfortunately I didn’t like it.”
