Mumbai Indians women sign Vaishnavi Sharma as replacement after G Kamalini ruled out of WPL 2026

G Kamalini has been ruled out of the rest of the WPL 2026 season due to a shoulder injury, causing Mumbai Indians Women to suffer a mid-tournament setback.

Kamalini was MI’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batsman and played in all five matches the team played this season. Her absence leaves a big gap, both behind the stumps and in the batting order.

The 20-year-old scored 75 runs in her outings and was sharp with the gloves. She completed seven dismissals and showed composure and consistency in pressure situations.

To fill the void, Mumbai Indians have signed left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma for the remainder of the season. The franchise picked her up for INR 30 lakh.

Vaishnavi is a 20-year-old left-arm orthodox spinner from Madhya Pradesh. She has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the past year and is seen as one of India’s most promising young bowlers.

She was part of India’s title-winning campaign at the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in 2025. Vaishnavi finished the tournament as the leading wicket-taker and played a key role in the final.

Her form later earned her a senior India call-up in 2025. She made her international debut against Sri Lanka and took five wickets in five T20Is, showing control and maturity beyond her years.

The addition of Vaishnavi strengthens MI’s spin department, which already includes Amelia Kerr and Saika Ishaque. The trio gives the team more options, especially on slower pitches.

However, Kamalini’s injury poses a tactical challenge for Mumbai Indians. With their main specialist wicketkeeper unavailable, the team will have to reshuffle roles and find a reliable option behind the stumps.
