Multan Sultans submits four proposals to PCB to improve the PSL structure

Multan Sultans were recently in the headlines of the Pakistani cricket landscape following franchise owner Ali Tareen’s mocking apology to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). In an effort to shift the focus towards reforms, the franchise has now submitted four proposals aimed at improving the overall standard and professionalism of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

In a letter to PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, he acknowledged the recent tensions between the two sides and took the opportunity to rebuild trust and professionalize the league’s operations. Tareen’s letter outlined a four-point programme, expressing concerns about ad hoc decision-making and limited management expertise within the PSL. He called for stronger institutional processes and accountability mechanisms to help the league reach its full potential.

The four proposals focus on franchise representation on PSL committees, structured recruitment for key positions, a professional management framework and regular information sharing mechanisms between the PCB and franchises.

Tareen emphasized that every franchise should have representation on committees related to planning, recruitment, ticketing, marketing and matchday activities to promote collective decision-making. He further suggested that franchises should be involved in selecting candidates for key roles and suggested that the league should not rely solely on current or former PCB employees.

He also recommended establishing a clear organizational chart with defined departments for operations, marketing, fan engagement, player affairs and finance, each led by qualified professionals. Furthermore, Tareen called for regular, preferably monthly, meetings with structured agendas shared in advance.

Tareen’s proposals come shortly after his controversial public apology to the PCB, which included a satirical video that evoked mixed reactions within the Pakistan cricket fraternity. The letter comes at a crucial time for the PSL as the PCB considers whether the Multan Sultans franchise will remain under Tareen’s ownership and finalizes plans to expand the league by adding two new teams.
