Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who announced her intention to resign from Congress in January after falling out with Donald Trump, has accused the president of “directly instigating” death threats against her family.
Speaking with Lesley Stahl on CBS News 60 minutes On Sunday night, the congresswoman, 51, was asked by host Lesley Stahl about her decision “not to stay and fight” when Trump began attacking her on Truth Social last month, calling her “Marjorie Traitor Brown.”
“After President Trump called me a traitor, I received a pipe bomb threat against my home. And then I received several direct death threats against my son,” Greene said.

“You’re saying the president put your life in danger,” Stahl continued. “You blame him, you say he stirred up a ‘hotbed of threats’ against me, and you blame him for the threats against your son.”
“The subject for the direct death threats against my son were his words – Marjorie Traitor Greene,” the former MAGA cheerleader responded. “These are death threats directly fueled by President Trump.”
The representative did not explain which of her two sons, ages 22 and 26, were targeted, but said she had informed the president and Vice President J.D. Vance about it and that although the latter promised to look into it, Trump responded by saying something that “wasn’t very nice.” Pressed for more details, Greene added that the president’s comment had been “extremely unkind.”
The independent has contacted the White House for comment.
Elsewhere in the interview, Greene attempted to distance herself from her former place in Trump’s movement and spoke about her political future.

The Republican said she considered herself “America First” rather than MAGA, which she called “President Trump’s phrase,” and accused the president of reneging on his promises to voters by siding with business allies over everyday Americans.
“Those are the areas that are still getting everything they want, while the people, we’re still here, saying, ‘We want to see action in areas for the American people, not for the big industries and the big donors,’” Greene told Stahl, suggesting Trump got his priorities wrong.
Throughout the year, the populist has pressured Trump and split with the Republican Party on several issues, including siding with Democrats in support of extending Obamacare subsidies during the shutdown negotiations and backing a bipartisan effort to force the government to release more of the Jeffrey Epstein files.
During her appearance, she doubled down on her criticism of some party members 60 minutes In an interview, Republicans on Capitol Hill once claimed to be mocking Trump behind his back, but are now posing as supporters out of a combination of political opportunism and fear of reprisals.
“I watched a lot of my colleagues go from making fun of him, to making fun of the way he talks, to constantly making fun of me for supporting him, to when he won the 2024 primary, they all — pardon my language, Lesley — kissed his ass and decided to put on a MAGA hat for the first time,” she said.

Although the president says he wants to see Greene succeed in politics in the future, her alliance with him seems to be over, just like her political ambitions.
As rumors of a possible presidential bid in 2028 swirled, she told Stahl she has “no desire whatsoever” to run for the White House, adding that she “hates” being in the Senate and not running for governor of Georgia.
“And I’ll have face-to-face conversations with people and I’ll tell them straight out to their faces, and they won’t believe me. And they’ll say, ‘Oh yeah, sure.’ They’ll wink at me and I’ll say, ‘Okay.’ It’s like I don’t know how to make it clearer,” she told Stahl.
“Surprise, surprise… I am not your politician with a whole range of plans or political ambitions.”
Greene also talked about the behind-the-scenes conversations she said she had about the Epstein scandal with Trump. The representative claimed that Trump wanted to prevent the release of files because he said it would “hurt people.”
“I had asked him, ‘These women are the ones who were hurt. They were raped at 14. They were raped at 16. I saw them standing in front of the press shaking, their bodies shaking as they told their stories, many of them for the first time.’
“And I had said to him, ‘You know, there are all kinds of people coming to the White House, there are these women coming to the White House. These women deserve to be heard.'”
