The Ferguson police have labeled the incident a burglary
Ferguson, Missouri, Resident Storm Burris was the victim of a false expansion, so she left no possessions.
Burris, a mother of two, returned home to find her apartment and dumped her possessions in garbage bags outside her door. The incident happened in the Apartments Complex Renewal Heights in Ferguson. Burris and her children remained nothing but questions about what went wrong.
Burris had dropped her children at school. She expected to return to a normal afternoon But was not prepared for what she discovered. Almost all her possessions were removed from the house. They were placed in garbage bags and littered over the corridor that led to her unit.
“I came home, and everything … it was everywhere,” she said KSDK. “They pointed to the trash. When I looked closely at it, it was all my babies in it and I was in shock.”
Sources say that the mix took place during a failed maintenance or expansion process. Renewal heights staff have released the wrong unit, even though Burris had fully paid for her rent. Local proponents of tenants were furious. The false deportation is a violation of the legal protection provided to tenants. Many jurisdictions from Missouri require landlords to give a notification before they have throwing items away.
For Burris, the loss is not only about real estate. Her life has been extremely uncomfortable and created instability for her children. Moreover, the family suffered the loss of irreplaceable Densendens, including photos and dolkens.
Property Management offered to give Burris $ 5,000 and a month for free about the rent of her next month. Yet she believes that the amount is much too low because her apartment contained valuable items.
“The bedroom set of my son, two new generation iPads, my son and daughter had cars they could drive when they could charge them, Pandora reasons, kay reasons, a safe and I had an engagement ring that was only $ 2,000,” she said.
Burris has launched a GoFundMe To help replace the items she lost.
“I do everything I should do, and this really put me back a lot,” she said. “I believe that this story should be heard because it shows how easily families can lose everything because of no guilt of themselves, and how little accountability exists when a landlord or evacuation team makes such a catastrophic mistake. I ask for responsibility, community support and an opportunity to rebuild my life for my children.”
The police have called the incident a burglary, but no official suspects have been identified.
