We are not talking about resale value, yes. Recreational vehicles (RV), whether the campers, caravans, camper buses or camper trucks are set on a permit and regulated by the Ministry of Transport for Commercial purposes from January 1, 2026, Declared Reports.
According to Minister of Transport Anthony Loke, RV tourism in the country is growing, and the new policy will allow the use of these vehicles as self-drive tourist vehicles in the Malaysia peninsula and as a self-drive rent cars in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.
“The implementation will be limited to new vehicles, either fully fied (CKD) or fully accumulated (CBU) units, with effect from January 1, 2026,” he said today.
Loke added that RVs who are privately registered can be commercialized before December 31, 2025 if they are not older than 15 years old and if they pass the Technical Inspectorate of the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
He also said that the Ministry of Transport and Tourism, the Art and Cultural Connection (Motac) will investigate the implementation of a ‘single window’ system for RV license applications.
“So every new RV that is intended for rental would only require a single permit from Motac to be used for tourist activities, because this falls beyond the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transport,” he said.
