Warning: This story contains graphic details.
Jude Wijesinghe, 31, would have had to deal with a single indictment of murder later this year, after Tshewang Choden had been put to death in a storage space in the kitchen where they both worked.
Judicial documents have unveiled the dramatic moment at which the Wijesinghe staff covered with blood, was in the storage space.
They would run when they heard shouts, but were unable to enter the storage room in the first instance.
Wijesinghe then came out to hold the knife while the other staff fled.
By the time more people arrived, Wijesinghe was injured on the ground.
He was disarmed when a colleague stood on his wrist to drop him the knife.
Mrs. Choden was found in the storage room.
She was stabbed 14 times, with the fatal strokes in the neck and chest.
‘Most beautiful name in the world’
Hofmaterialen reveal that Wijesinghe had worked in the kitchen for a year and a half for a year and a half, where he met Mrs. Choden.
In June 2023, Wijesinghe sent Mrs. Choden a message stating that she had the “most beautiful name in the world”.
But when he asked her out for dinner when they were both free, she refused.
When Mrs. Choden started to date someone else, she told others that Wijinghe began to be moody towards her and if other men spoke to her, he would get angry and stop talking to her.
The couple had worked together on the same service, but by the time of the murder, Mrs. Choden did morning shifts, where Wijesinghe worked later.
On the day of the murder, Wijesinghe and Mrs. Choden were in the kitchen with another colleague who left soon after.
It was shortly thereafter that workers in the neighborhood heard the first screams and ran to see what happened.
Wijesinghe had worked in the kitchen in the zoo for 18 months. ((Liver: National Zoo and Aquarium))
The court documents show that in the run -up to the murder that Wijesinghe began to tell that he went back to Sri Lanka and even sold his car.
He also wrote letters to friends and relationships and sent SMS messages to say goodbye.
Wijesinghe was taken to the hospital after the incident, where he was later accused of murder.
He would have had to deal with later this year, but today it was set aside when he pleaded guilty.
Wijesinghe will be confronted with a hearing in October.
