Rescuers fought to reach on remote mountainous areas that are cut off from mobile networks along the Pakistani border, where Modderbrick -Huizen studied the slopes in the earthquake.
The earthquake destroyed three villages in Kunar, with substantial damage to many others, the authorities said. At least 610 people were killed in Kunar with 12 dead in Nangarhar, they added.

It was the third major fatal earthquake by Afghanistan since the Taliban took over in 2021 when the foreign forces withdrew, as a result of which international financing was activated that formed the majority of public finances.
An earthquake of 6.1 magnitude that killed 1,000 people in the eastern region that year was the first major natural disaster that the Taliban government was confronted with.
Call for financing
“Until now, no foreign governments have contacted to offer support for rescue or auxiliary work,” said a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan.

China was ready to offer help with disasters “according to the needs of Afghanistan and within his capacity,” said a spokesperson for his Ministry of Foreign Affairs later.
