More than 5000 people have evacuated from flooding hit-Jammu, efforts to restore essential services

More than 5,000 people were evacuated from the banks of various flooded rivers and flooded low-lying areas in the Jammu region as rescue agencies and the administration continued to contact stranded people in flooding hit Jammu and Samba districts.

The majority of the Jammu division, which is flooded by flash flames caused by heavy rainfall, continued to receive rain, although of less intensity. Attempts to restore the water supply, electricity and internet services that have been seriously affected are underway, but schools and colleges are closed.

Jammu registered 380 mm of rainfall for the past 24 hours, making it the highest rainfall ever in Jammu in a period of 24 hours since 1910, when the observatory was determined.

“More than 5,000 people were evacuated from low-lying areas to safety. The army, NDRF and SDRF work in coordination with the division commissioner,” said Lieutenant-Governeur Manoj Sinha on X.

He added: “We ensure that there is a sufficient range of auxiliary material and that all possible help is given to the affected.”

Sinha said he spoke with division commissioner, Jammu, Ramesh Kumar and other senior officials and the balance of the flood situation and rescue and aid operations.

The LG commissioned officials to ensure repair of electricity, communication and water supply in priority in areas where flood water withdraws.

Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Rakesh Minhas said on X that more than 3,500 people were saved in the Jammu district on Tuesday alone.

“The district administration, the police, the army, the NDRF and SDRF are in non-stop auxiliary activities. Recovery of roads, essential supplies and other services are guaranteed about priority and war photos,” he said.

It is said that about 20 to 30 low -lying places in Jammu and Samba have been flooded by flash floods that have been activated by heavy rainfall that continues for the past 38 hours.

A large number of people from Peerkho, Gujjar Nagar, RS Pura, Nikki Tawi, Beli Charan, Gurkhanagar, Qasim Nagar, Rajiv Nagar, Sher-E-Kashmir University, Akhnoor and Pargwal. In addition, most banks of the swollen Tawi River were evacuated in the Jammu district, officials said.

Minister of Union Jitendra Singh, in a position on X, said that division commissioner Kumar is constantly in contact with him and is currently a meeting of officers of various departments.

The entire Jammu division, which preserves Poonch and Rajouri districts, still receives rain, although of less intensity, according to the division commissioner. The water levels of the Tawi River have been withdrawn, but Chenab continues to flow close to the danger, the official said.

“The immediate priority is the repair of electricity, water supply and mobile services, for which authorities have continuously worked from one day to the next. The SDRF, NDRF, paramilitary, army and air force authorities are closely coordinating civil administration,” said a note of his office.

Schools and colleges have been commissioned to stay closed, and the general public has been advised to abandon non-essential movement for their safety, it added.

The historic Madhopur bridge, including structures, is damaged by the floods. “Traffic of traffic on this bridge on the Jammu -Patankot Highway has stopped since about 3 hours this morning.” The Minister of Union appealed to the public to work with the authorities without a panic.

Singh said that the prime minister is monitoring the flood situation in the region.

The administration has also released helpline numbers for each district.
