I wasn’t going to talk about Auston Matthews breaking Mats Sundin’s goal total while wearing a Maple Leafs jersey, but a company has me writing about the Toronto Maple Leafs today. The two guys on the left have a pretty cool connection when it comes to their record goals, but I won’t reveal what that is just yet. Instead, I want to talk about solid marketing from a company that continues to find unique ways to market its drinks through hockey. Budweiser is an official NHL partner in Canada, and the work being done by their Budweiser Zero team to promote that product is quite impressive after making an impact last season. You may remember that Budweiser Zero celebrated Alexander Ovechkin’s 895th goal last season by sending their product to all the goalies who had not conceded a goal to Ovechkin in the matches they played against him. It was an excellent marketing idea because it connected the “zero” part of the product name while celebrating a major hockey award. Frankly, we could use more marketing like that.
Well, Budweiser Zero has struck again this season thanks to Auston Matthews’ new goal total in Toronto, but they’re celebrating the 61 players who assisted on Matthews’ record 421 goals in blue and white with their own specially marked cans! It should come as no surprise that Mitch Marner and William Nylander lead the way, but 59 other players have provided at least one of the 705 assists on those 421 goals! Here’s the image for those assists!

For those wondering, Tie Domi had an assist on Mats Sundin’s 420th goal as a Maple Leafs player, and it was Max Domi who recorded an assist on Auston Matthews’ 421st goal. How cool is it that both record goals for the Maple Leafs were assisted by members of the Domi family? Pretty cool if you ask me.61 players will receive their specially marked cans of Budweiser Zero for being part of Maple Leafs historybut Budweiser Zero deserves kudos for their unique marketing campaign celebrating Auston Matthews’ new record. No one scores 421 goals in an NHL career on their own, so I’ll raise a glass to everyone who helped with Matthews’ goals. That includes Budweiser Zero for the #KingsOfAssists campaign!
Until next time, keep your sticks on the ice!
