Moose Weekly Recap: Manitoba extends win streak to four

The Manitoba Moose wrapped up a five-game road trip this past week, with two games in Rockford against the IceHogs and one in Milwaukee against the Admirals. Manitoba entered the trip looking to build on their 3-2 win in Texas on Nov. 8 before heading home for a six-game homestand.

Wednesday, November 12 – Manitoba 3, Rockford 2

The Moose found themselves in trouble early, as Rockford struck twice in the first seven minutes.

Samuel Fagemo got Manitoba on the board during the power play at 11:01. After a smooth feed from Brayden Yager, Fagemo blasted his third of the season past Drew Commesso to halve the deficit.

With just 12 seconds left in the period, Jaret Anderson-Dolan connected with former IceHog Isaak Phillips who cut into the slot. Phillips fired a shot over Commesso’s blocker into the top corner, tying the game 2-2.

Just 2:55 into the third, Ville Heinola fired from the blue line through traffic that beat Commesso low, giving the Moose their first lead of the evening at 3-2.

Manitoba took a 2-0 lead in the first period. Kevin Conley opened the scoring by tapping in a centering pass from Ashton Sautner, and Phillip Di Giuseppe made it 2-0 on the power play after another sharp move from Yager. Yager, stationed along the sidewall, passed to Di Giuseppe at the top of the crease for his fourth of the year.

The second period was scoreless before Cole O’Hara got Milwaukee on the board midway through the third and cut the lead in half.

Walker Duehr sealed Manitoba’s third straight win with a late empty-netter, his fourth of the season. Domenic DiVincentiis was solid, knocking down 25 shots.

Saturday, November 15 – Manitoba 5, Rockford 2

Manitoba returned to Rockford for the second half of a back-to-back before heading home.

Connor Mylymok opened the scoring for the IceHogs with his second of the season, and Rockford took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

The Moose exploded offensively in the second period with four goals. Danny Zhilkin tied the game when his shot deflected off a Rockford defender and went in. Duehr made it 2-1 by driving the net and sliding the puck five holes past Stanislav Berezhnoy. After Rockford tied the score, Zhilkin struck again, this time on a 2-on-1, for his second of the match. Just 1:29 later, Fagemo stole the puck at the Manitoba blue line, breaking in alone and finishing for his fourth of the season to make it 4-2.

The Moose now return home for six straight games at the Canada Life Centre, starting on Thursday, November 20, against the Chicago Wolves.
