Today’s mindset Monday: How not to deal with frustration
If you feel frustrated about someone, there are two things you should never do, and I have done them both.
For a little context: if you have seen the bride’s film father with Steve Martin, I might be a bit like Steve Martin in that film at the moment because our son is getting married in our backyard this weekend.
And of course I want everything to be used to perfectAnd that is probably a bit of stress added for me.
And here is what happened:
I saw some mulch, looked like it was not tidy and well captured. It looked a bit like a sloppy job, and what I shouldn’t have done was that I should not have marched and had the conversation immediately. Instead, I should have followed my wife Kate’s advice.
She said: just keep breathing, just relax. It will be fine.
I should have put the practice 24 hours until adult ruleThat’s: You can wait 24 hours, show enough emotional adulthood and restraint to wait, or at least an hour to arrange maturity?
No, I marched immediately … Don’t do that! Wait instead, breathe and you get perspective.
And then, try understand.
Because what I did was, I wanted them to understand me instead of understanding what was taking place for them.
If I wanted to understand it first, I would have discovered that they had actually pulled away from work to help with another job, so it looked the way it was and it was not even complete.
But I didn’t try to understand.
So try to understand, put the 24 -hour rule into practice to grow up.
Do those two things and you will deal with every frustrating person or situation much better than I just did.
That is my challenge for you, and that is you Monday Mentality.
