The Monaco Grand Prix remains on the Formula 1 calendar until at least 2035, after the signing of a four-year contract extension.
The previous deal of Monaco ran until 2031 after numerous organizational changes, and the iconic street race has now expanded that to the next decade. The deal brings it in accordance with both the new Race of Canada and Madrid that will also run until 2035, while only Bahrain (2036), Melbourne (2037), Miami and Austria (2041) have longer deals.
“The streets of Monaco echo with the sound of Formula 1 since the earliest days of sport, so I am happy to announce the expansion of this fantastic event until 2035,” said F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali. “It is an iconic race that is loved by all drivers and fans, with a unique atmosphere thanks to the location at the most glamorous principality in the world. I would like to thank a special thank you to his serene highness, Prince Albert II of Monaco, Michel Boeri, President of the Automobile Club of this historic.”
Both Monaco and F1 are intrinsically connected, where the race is held 71 times – behind only Monza as a location – and Prince Albert II says it is an event that is part of his identity.
“The renewal of the Monaco Grand Prix until 2035 is in accordance with a sporting and historical tradition to which the principality remains deeply attached,” said Prince Albert II. “I can only welcome this renewed deployment, which is proof of our collective success, the excellence of our collaboration with Formula 1 and the unique place that Monaco occupies in the international motorsport landscape.”
The earlier extension of Monaco moved the racing date until the beginning of June to make more regionalization of the calendar possible, from next year when the Canadian Grand Prix Miami will follow.
The expansion means that there are now 16 of the current 24 locations with confirmed deals in the 1920s, with potential new varieties in Thailand and South Africa – among other things – that interest to participate in the calendar.
