Minjee Lee is in the abyss of a third career and the biggest check in women’s golf after grabbing an impressive lead at the PGA championship in Texas.
The Australian star defied more brutal conditions with a sublime third round 3-under-par 69 to go to a lead of four shots at PGA Frisco’s Scorching and Windwept Fields Ranch East Course.
Lee started the day three shots behind world number two Jeeno Thitikul and could not get to the Thais in the Thai before he hit the top gear around the bend.
Brilliant from the T-shirt and with the broomstick-packer in hand, the Perth Prodigy collected her first birdie of the day on the ninth hole and then took two out of 14 and 15 to make a shortage with three shots in a four-stroke buffer.
After beating 11 of 14 Fairways and needed only 26 puts, Lee finished around three by 6-under, a score that Thitikul achieved briefly before stumbling with four back-nine bogeys in a rough four-over round of 76.
The leading duo are the only players in red songs, since the third major forms of the season as a last-day match-play showdown.
South Korean Hye-Jin Choi (72), the Japanese Miyu Yamashita (73) and the American Lexi Thompson (75) are in third place on one, seven shots behind the running leader.
The victory for the 29-year-old Lee would earn the third stage of Ladies Golf Grand Slam after her Evian Championship Triumph and 2022 US Open Success.
Lee also hopes to make a profitless run of 19 months, the longest drought of her decorated career.
The victory would also secure the highest earner of Australian Women’s Sport a new monster control of $ US3.4 million ($ 5.25 million), the same payment day in the history of its game.
