The Ministry of Tourism of the Union encourages states to create agencies at city level to attract global global events and to take a magazine from destinations such as Dubai and Singapore.
The ministry believes that agencies at city level will lead to effective cooperation and the competitiveness of India will increase compared to its competitors.
“We encourage state governments to take the lead in setting up the agencies and these can include civil servants of governments, hotels and important stakeholders,” said Suman Billa, director -general, Ministry of Tourism.
In recent years there have been various initiatives to stimulate meetings, incentives, conference and events (mice) in India. In 2021, the Ministry of Finance granted the infrastructure status to congress centers to alleviate bank financing for the projects. A national mouse strategy was drawn up in 2022 to make India the favorite destination for major events and conferences.
Despite the initiatives, India’s share in Global Mice Business remains low. “India currently orders only 5 percent of the global mouse market of $ 850 billion,” said Billa.
“Setting up agencies at city level will help bundle hospitality products and offer a single window freedom,” he added. The center can even offer financial support that corresponds to the contributions of the state to offer at major events.
This is already the norm worldwide. In Dubai, for example, the official conference office of the city event organizers with support from location, obtaining proposals from locations, blocking hotel rooms and facilitating site inspections.
Last year the agency achieved the right to organize 437 new business events in Dubai, which marked an increase of 20 percent on an annual basis.
The Singapore Convention and Exhibition Bureau offers subsidies and stimuli for events proposals that meet its criteria for fresh and high caliber events with innovative content, says it on the website.
Visa reforms
From the side of the aviation and travel industry, managers call to illuminate visa processes to support growth.
The relaxation of the visa process will strengthen the position of India as an International MICE destination, the Indian Country director of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Amitabh Khosla, wrote in a LinkedIn post on Saturday.
Khosla is based on the experience of hosting IATA AGM in Delhi in June and has proposed the E-E-Conference Visa category because it has a limited goal and creates confusion among applicants.
“Maintaining the e-business visa and streamlining its use for mouse-related trips can simplify the process,” he said.
“Indian Association of Tourism Operators (IATO) highlights to simplify group and e-visa processes, reducing bureaucratic delays and to explore the exemptions of visa costs for important source markets to improve India’s call at large-scale business events and conferences.
