Box score
Milwaukee blew out the Nationals today in a game that was not as close as the final score indicates.
Brandon Lockridge, who made his first career appearance as a brewer, distracted the game with a strikeout of four pitch. William Contreras, the next batter, hit a line on a line ride to midfield. Christian Yelich then worked a walk, but National Starter Mitchell Parker took off Andrew Vaughn and Caleb Durbin to end the inning.
Jose Quintana came in a little problems in the bottom of the first, so that a lead -off Double could go to shortstop CJ Abrams. James Wood and Paul Dejong both flew away, but the second fly -out brought the fast Abrams to third place. However, Quintana could not come out of the inning, when Luis Garcia Jr. On a ground ball to the right, so that Abrams brought around to score the first run of the game.
The Nationals would not stay ahead for long. New Trade Acquisition Danny Jansen was on a short stop, but Blake Perkins hit a line drive to the left and tied the game one each.
Note – The Apple TV+ Call of the Perkins Home Run was one of the worst phone calls I heard in a long time. It is worth watching if you want a smile:
“This is reversed by Jansen. Or rather, by Perkins. And it is a one-out home run. A solo shot, to place the Brewers on 1-0.”

Milwaukee would not score again in the frame despite a single by Joey Ortiz. Quintana kept the NATS remotely on the bottom of the second, which would be the last inning that he would pitch without a lead. Contreras, Christian Yelich and Andrew Vaughn all crashed to start the top of the third party, with Vaughn’s Single that brought Contreras home.
Durbin then laid down a perfect bump along the first basin line that brought Nathaniel Lowe in the first basin to the field. Neither Lowe nor Parker could hit the bag and Durbin slid in the basic height to load the bases.
The next Slagman, Jansen, turned a fly ball to the left that was just deep enough to score Yelich. Blake Perkins then turned out for the second, but the brewers were not ready. Andraw Monasterio doubled the top of the wall to score Vaughn and Durbin. Joey Ortiz then doubled to score Monasterio and turn it into 6-1 Milwaukee.
Quintana soon got two outs in the bottom of the third, but Paul Dejong hit a home run to lower the lead from the Brewers to four. William Contreras led the top of the fourth with a different single, but Parker pulled out Yelich, Vaughn and Durbin to get out of the inning.
Quintana’s last Stat-line (5 IP, 6 H, 2 er, 4 K) was not half-bath, but he certainly made Brewers fans sweating. In the bottom of the fourth, Quintana put runners on the first and second after touching Daylen Lile and Walking Riley Adams, but let Jacob Young land for the third zero.
Jansen started the fifth with a single. After Jansen was Blake Perkins, who made sure that the Apple TV+ callers would remember his name:
National Manager Miguel Cairo had seen enough and attracted Parker, who had allowed eight points in just four innings. His replacement, Jackson Rutledge, received the first batter, Monasterio, to ground. He could not get the same result from Ortiz and Lockridge, as both of them struck. Contreras based in a force in second place. Yelich then crashed to score Ortiz of the third, making it 9-2 brewers.
Rutledge walked Vaughn to load the bases, but Durbin turned out to end the inning. Abrams and Wood started the fifth with hits from Quintana, which was once again able to go down and get out of the inning without allowing a run. The top of the sixth was fairly quiet, except for a Monasterio Single, but the Nationals got a few points back in the bottom of the frame, thanks to a lile triple and a CJ Abrams Single Off by Grant Anderson.
It was still 9-4 Milwaukee at the moment, but the brewers were not ready yet. Lockridge led with a single and then easily stable in second place. Contreras, who is recently on fire, crushed a ball in the left field for his fourth hit of the competition. National World Ryan Loutos then spread Yelich for the first zero. Then the nns fell apart.
Andrew Vaughn hit a single before Durbin hit a ground ball into the hole at ShortStop. Abrams probably tried to get the forceout in second place, but threw the ball in the right field on a throw that wasn’t even around. Vaughn and Durbin both went on the throw error. Loutos then hit Jansen to load the bases.
The next batter, Blake Perkins, hit a helicopter on the right on Loutos, who dropped the ball on the transfer, allowing Vaughn to score and persist the bases. Monasterio then hit the left for his third hit of the day and scored Durbin to bring the score to 13-4. Joey Ortiz then scored Jansen on a groundout, but Lockridge spread to end the inning.
Aaron Ashby kept Washington scoreless in the seventh, and in the top of the eighth the Brewers got two more insurance runs on another home run from Vaughn.
Neither of the teams would again score until the bottom of the ninth, when Easton McGee did his best to get Trevor Megill a chance. McGee allowed five points and eventually threw 47 throws through two innings. Towards the end of the ninth, Nick Mears was even warming up in the bullpen, and Pat Murphy did not look happy (of course). McGee finally drew CJ Abrams on a flying ball to end the game with a final score of 16-9, Milwaukee.
Milwaukee finished a total of 25 hits in today’s game. Some Brewers have set up seasonal songs, including:
William Contreras: 5-out-7, HR, 2B
Andraw monastery: 4-out-6, 3 RBI
Blake Perkins: 2-out-6, 2 hours
Every brewer to include a board performance in today’s game had several hits except Jansen, who had a hit, an RBI, and reached the base twice. Ortiz, Monasterio and Lockridge combined for nine hits. The Bewers’ attack clearly objects to the idea that GM Matt Arnold should have traded another bat before yesterday’s trade theadline.
Brandon Woodruff will take the hill for the Brewers tomorrow. The game is broadcast live on both Fanduel Sports Wisconsin and the Brewers Radio Network. First throw is set at 3.05 p.m.
