Millwall goalkeeper Max Crocombe joined the Championship from Burton Albion in the summer and has been doing well since his arrival.
Millwall are currently flying high in the Championship. The Lions moved up to third in the rankings after a brilliant 3-2 victory last weekend over Southampton.
The south London team have won two in a row after suffering poor form for most of November. Injuries have played a major role in Alex Neil’s team selection, but the goalkeeper position has been constant for some time.
Max Crocombe made his first league start for the Lions in October after loan goalkeeper Steven Benda was ruled out through injury. Last season, Lukas Jensen was the first choice, but an Achilles injury kept the Dane sidelined until next year.
Mill wall signed Crocombe from Burton Albion on a free transfer in the summer transfer window, originally as a back-up to Benda, but his performances since breaking into the starting XI have made it impossible for Neil to replace him. The New Zealand international has shown his commitment to playing a part in The Den’s success this campaign.
Max Crocombe has been reliable for Millwall
Crocombe played in two EFL Cup matches before entering the competition. The 32-year-old helped Millwall reach the third round of the competition after wins against Newport County and Coventry City.
The New Zealand international has kept four clean sheets in 11 games for the Lions and has not put a foot wrong since arriving at The Den. According to FotMob, the former Burton Albion man has a 72% save rate and has made zero errors that have led to goals.
Making the move from League One could have been too much for Crocombe. He has shown he is more than capable at the second level. Despite Neil’s side’s poor goal difference, their overall defense has been solid throughout this season.

Millwall have a goalkeeper decision to make
Millwall also signed Benda on loan from Fulham in the summer window. The German produced some good performances before getting injured and would probably still be in the starting line-up if he wasn’t sidelined.
Jensen’s return will also likely happen within a few months, but the Lions will likely continue his rehabilitation into next season. The Dane has been signed as the starting goalkeeper in South London, so they will be in no rush to sell him.
The South London team cannot have three quality first-team goalkeepers at the same time as frustration can build over playing time. They must decide how they view Benda and whether his loan deal should be converted into a permanent move.
