Millions of British endanger their teeth by binge treats after dinner on sugary treats and not brushing before bed, warn dentists.
One in three adults (33 percent) admits to snack every night, with more than two in three (68 percent) choosing people such as chocolates, candy and cookies.
In the meantime, almost half (47 percent) go to sleep without brushing their teeth at least once a week, so that sugar and bacteria can damage their gnashers at night.
The Oral Health Foundation, which investigated 2,000 people, said that this ‘dangerous double custom’ could lead to an increase in tooth decay and gum disorders.
Dr. Nigel Carter, Chief Executive of the charity, said: ‘These figures are a real wake-up call-it VK will be a nation of Late-Night Snackers, and it is our teeth that pay the price.
‘Snacking on sugary treats every night and then skip a brush before bed is a recipe for a disaster.
‘If you don’t brush, sugar and bacteria will stay on your teeth all night and produce acids that eat away during the glaze.
‘Over time, this can lead to tooth decay, gum disease and tooth loss.

“In essence, you release harmful bacteria to damage your mouth while you sleep.”
The foundation of the foundation suggests that a maximum of 26 million British adults after dinner are at least three times a week in sugar -containing treats in sugar -like treats.
And they are young adults who are the worst offenders.
More than four-in-five (86 percent) 18-to-24-year-olds admit that they snack at night, with most (81 percent) that extends to sugar packaged.
Young people are also most likely to brush their teeth before bed.
Almost half (43 percent) say that they miss the night brush a few times a week over the national average of about one in three (36 percent).
Dr. Carter suggests that patients have to snack after an evening meal.
He added: ‘If you choose to snack, choose options that do not harm your teeth.
‘Savory choices such as cheese, nuts or breadsticks are much better for your oral health.
‘Save sugar -containing treats for meals and always remember – brushing your teeth before going to sleep is essential. It is your last line of defense against tooth decay. ‘
The Oral Health Foundation, which describes itself as the leading national charity that works to improve the oral health, advises cleaning with fluoride -toothpaste two minutes a day and reducing sugary food and drinks.
It comes as a public satisfaction with NHS-Tandheelkunde is at a low point, where many people struggle to make an appointment and having to resort to pull their own teeth at home.
