AC Milan assistant Marco Landucci believed a series of ‘unfortunate’ events led to his team’s shock 1-0 defeat to Parma at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Sunday.
Landucci, who was in the dugout as Massimiliano Allegri was suspended, watched as Mariano Troilo’s goal in the 80th minute sealed a 1-0 win for the visitors.
The result saw Milan taste defeat in Serie A for the first time since their opening day defeat to Cremonese, ending their 24-match unbeaten run in the top flight (W15 D9).
The team also failed to score for the second time this season, while it was the first time since April 2025 that they failed to find the back of the net at home.
But the match started when Ruben Loftus-Cheek was involved in a nasty collision with Edoardo Corvi and had to withdraw from the match in the 11th minute.
Rafael Leao then hit the post before Troilo headed past Mike Maignan, with the goal initially disallowed for a foul on the Milan goalkeeper, before the decision was overturned by referee Marco Piccinini following a VAR review.
“I think Serie A is the most difficult competition in the world because it is so balanced and there are hidden dangers in every match,” Landucci told Sky Sport Italia.
“There are games that just don’t go the way you want. Today Gabbia got injured during the warm-up and we had to make a last minute change.
“Then Loftus-Cheek immediately got injured and suffered a nasty blow. It was a bit of an unlucky evening.”

But more importantly, the defeat meant that Milan lost ground to rival and Serie A leader Inter, with a ten-point lead between first and second place.
The supercomputer Opta has now given the Rossoneri just a 3.1% chance of winning the title, while Inter has given a 96.1% chance of winning in its season simulations.
“The team was disappointed, we tried to reassure them,” Landucci added.
“We should not think about the other parties, but about our own journey, getting as many points as possible. Our goal is to return to the Champions League.”
However, Milan had their chances in the match, registering 25 attempts, giving an expected goals total (xG) of 1.33, but only six of their shots were on target.
It was the first time they had so many tries without scoring since April 2022, when they scored 33 against Bologna, much to Landucci’s chagrin.
“We are obviously not happy,” Landucci added. “Parma played very well and the ball just wouldn’t go in tonight.
“We wanted the three points, so of course we felt let down, but we will go again from Tuesday.”
