Mikel Arteta watched while his Arsenal side won 3-2 on Sunday.
Sandro Tonali creates the opening goal with great movement and an excellent assist for Anthony Elanga to score within six minutes.
Two goals for Arsenal only a few minutes apart saw the gunners 2-1 up during the break. The first of that Merino ended a good smooth movement, but the second was a bad goal of Alex Murphy from United.
James Murphy seemed to have earned Newcastle a draw with a second half of Equalizer, a fine left floor boutar finish from outside the box.
With six minutes to go, however, Odegaard got the winner from the penalty spot.
A hard fine granted after the faintest touches of Joelinton saw the Arsenal player diving to the ground.
Mikel Arteta press conference after the 3-2 victory over Newcastle United, quotes via Official Arsenal site:
“I think the requirements that Newcastle has made for you, especially in midfield, with the kind of plays and profiles that he had, I think Zubimendi was dealing with intensity, with physicality.
“He is so smart, he is constantly a step ahead, he can read situations, he can perform at a higher speed, whether he has room or not, and that is not common to have in a player, especially if you are a midfield player.”
Mikel Arteta about the physicality of this match:
“I think it’s not friendly.
“I think Newcastle is a test and I think you should also have a chance to increase the competitive level and there are things that want to achieve physically clearly, but there are things in terms of how we compete, how we understand the position and that willingness to win, regardless of what we play for and I love the team’s mentality in that sense.”
Mikel Arteta about the signing of Viktor Gyokeres:
“We have plans, we have many options and we increase the quality of the team and the depth of the team with all the signing sessions we have done.
“We are super happy to have Viktor with us, it has been a long journey to get him here. He has been incredible, he was very clear from the beginning where he wanted to play and how passionate I felt of him from the first day when we talked for the first time. You can see the boys, you can also see the environment, very enthusiastic with his arrival.
“We were very clear about the talent we identified in the window.
“But to deliver it is something very, very different and I think the club has done incredibly well, Andrea and his team, they have absolutely fantastic. So I mean so early in the window, we already have the reinforcements we wanted.”
