The first Zuffa Boxing event is scheduled for Friday and will serve as an appetizer just one night before the UFC 324 show. Just before UFC makes its Paramount+ debut, Zuffa Boxing 01 is headlined by a middleweight showdown between undefeated Callum Walsh and Carlos Ocampo.
Ahead of the event, which will be held at the newly renamed Meta APEX, Tyson attended Hard Rock Bet to share his belief that White needs to be alert regarding the boxing world’s top promoters (via MMAmania).
“Boxing was created broken, and it will die broken,” Tyson said. “He has to understand what kind of people he is dealing with. I think he has dealt with Turki.” [Alalshikh]but I don’t think he actually covered the nitty-gritty of people’s boxing. He will have to crush them all. Everything in boxing is not on the table. There is always something under the table that we know nothing about and that is boxing. That’s what I know. That is the golden rule in boxing.”
White recently told reporters that the story that he is trying to tear boxing apart is not true. The UFC boss insisted that the WBC, IBF, WBA and WBO will still have their championships. He also said top promoters like Eddie Hearn and Bob Arum will still have the opportunity to put on shows even if Zuffa Boxing succeeds.
Whether White can lure some major boxing names under the Zuffa umbrella for the long term remains to be seen. He recently scored a big addition to the roster in the form of top cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia. White hopes to make numerous other splash signings in the coming months and years.
