Mike Richman clashes with Joe Elmore at BKFC KnuckleMania VI on February 7 in a fight that has bare-knuckle fans extremely excited. When asked when this would be the next fight, Richman said [via Bare Knuckle Bowker],
“Well, there was talk of me possibly fighting him [Joe Elmore] and a few other candidates when there was a drop in weight to ’75 and then to ’65. So then his name came up and I think he heard me coming down and stuff. I’m sure, like any other fighter with a little pride in their own ego, they’re like, “Okay, cool. You want to come down and fight?” you know.”
“I think that came about when we crossed paths at the show in Hollywood, Florida. That’s what led us to finally making it happen at KnuckleMania. Yeah, I don’t know. It was just quite a few things, one at a time, with perfect timing. For a moment, we didn’t think the fight was going to happen. It was like, back on, back off, back on, for a while, but now it’s like, you know, we’re locked in. So it’s showtime.”
‘The Marine’ recently had a post talking about the disrespect he felt for not being in the promo video, as a former two-time champion and eight-time BKFC main event fighter. When the headliner of BKFC KnuckleMania III It was asked if that was still the sentiment leading into this fight, Richman said [via Bare Knuckle Bowker],
“It definitely annoyed me. It frustrated me. It annoyed me. You know, I don’t think there was any; I don’t think there was any ill will from a promotional standpoint. You know, sometimes I think maybe because the back and forth of the fight isn’t going to happen. I think that played a part in it. You know, there was a certain moment where I knew that when the fight was 100% locked in, I thought maybe they could have done that.” things shifted.”
“As far as marketing goes, where we’re going to land as far as the main chart song. There were certain little things that, yeah, they were a little off-putting [me]. It kind of rubbed me the wrong way, the best way to put it. Now it’s like okay, cool, we have to move on. Put it behind you, it’s fine, show everyone again why they love tuning in and watching you fight. So you know, I let that moment pass. I’m just ready to drive forward and make it happen.
Mike Richman is “not the type of guy you want to get into a fight” at BKFC KnuckleMania VI
Richman has a consistently exciting style, and Elmore fits very well into a good matchmaking framework for an exciting throwdown this weekend. Elmore has tested his skills in gloveless battles against a host of future or reigning players [as of their contest time] bare-knuckle champions including Connor Tierney, Dustin Pague and Leonard Garcia. When asked for his thoughts on Joe Elmore’s overall skill set and what he brings to the table here, Richman joked [via Bare Knuckle Bowker],
“I think that’s what Joe is; I mean, he’s a scrapper, man. He’s a scrapper, you know, he gets in there and he goes after it. You know, like he hasn’t won in a few years. But he’s fought; he still keeps fighting the biggest talent. It’s not like they’ve ever gone down. ‘Okay, Joe, you lost. Let’s dip the talent pool so you can get back in.’ Every fight at that time he was fighting top level guys. He just goes out there and puts on a show.
“He goes out there and that’s his style. He swings away and he tries to get you into an exciting kind of fight. He pulls you into those little wars, those little battles. But I’m not the type of guy you want to get into a fight [laughs]. Because I don’t think he really is; I’m not saying those other guys can hit as hard as I can, but I don’t think they can hit as hard as I can. I just don’t think; I mean, I keep proving it over and over again in different weight classes. We will find out.”
