When he reported for seven, Mike Munro underwent a prostate check on the camera, but this time this led to surgery.

Veteraan journalist Mike Munro recovers after the operation after the discovery of a malignant tumor in his prostate gland.

For Munro, the serious news followed his own report on the dangers of prostate cancer and an Air test when he reported for seven.

Writing in the Australian He said: “As a journalist, over the years I have done countless stories to increase consciousness among men about prostate cancer.

“As a host of the seven networks Sunday evening Program, I had a digital rectal study by a urologist on national television. Ten years ago, the Prostate Cancer Council of Australia wanted to encourage more men to allow doctors to feel a swelling of the prostate by putting a finger in the anus to give a more clear diagnosis after an elevated PSA lecture. While the cameraman filmed me, his shot was only tight on my face.

“The prostate council estimated that the story may have saved dozens of lives. But that was a long time before the progress in MRIs and robot -like key surgery were made. I was present in an operating theater while I covered one of the earliest robot -like key hole surgery that took place in St Vincent’s Hospital to remove a prostate.”

Munro now reveals that he has recently undergone a prostatectomy in the North Shore Hospital in Sydney instead of radiation.

“These are decisions that are confronted with more and more men and are not easy to navigate. Only in my circle of friends do I know at least eight men who have recently had to struggle with these decisions and procedures for life and death.

“Only 48 hours after my operation I was allowed to leave the hospital and return to my family. Caught early enough, prostate cancer does not necessarily mean a death sentence.”

He is now recovering well at home after his operation.

Get well soon!
