Middlesbrough have rejected Wolves’ approach to make Rob Edwards their new Head Coach, according to the newspaper John Percy of the Telegraph.

Middlesbrough currently occupy third place in the Championship after an impressive 2025/26 season so far. Led by head coach Rob EdwardsBoro have shown clear progress since the war departure of Michael Carrick.

Edwards has rightly received plaudits for his impact, with the former Luton Town boss seeing his reputation soar once again. His success has reportedly caught the attention of his former club Wolves, who are looking for a new manager after talks with Gary O’Neil collapsed.

Edwards is now one of the leading candidates on Wolves’ shortlist. The Premier League team approached Boro this afternoon to make him their new boss.

However, Middlesbrough have rejected the approach and, according to the reporter, no talks will take place between Edwards and Wolves. John Percy via X. Boro are confident Edwards will not leave the club.

Middlesbrough will have to hope that Edwards leaves Wolves’ interest behind

It’s rare for managers to leave so soon after taking charge, but Middlesbrough could face that prospect with Rob Edwards. Edwards was appointed in the summer on a contract until 2028 and was brought in with the long-term vision of building stability following the departure of Michael Carrick.

However, history shows that when a manager’s former club comes calling, loyalty can be tested, even early in a tenure. Given Edwards’ connections with Wolves, you can’t rule out his interest in the job.

Asked about the growing speculation, Edwards remained measured in his response. He reaffirmed his focus on Middlesbrough but did not completely rule out a move or commit his long-term future to the club.

Having both played for Molineux and started his coaching journey, Edwards’ bond with Wolves runs deep. Unfortunately for Boro fans, if Edwards wanted the job his mind might not return to the game for Boro, but they have to hope this rejection puts the story to rest.

The international break could be perfect for Middlesbrough and Edwards

Most football fans don’t like the international breaks, but for Boro it could be ideal timing. With no win in three games, Middlesbrough is showing signs of pulling out of the automatic promotion battle.

Edwards’ poor form and ties outside the club go hand in hand. Hopefully for Middlesbrough, the Wolves conversation will have concluded by the time the break is over, and whether Edwards is still at the club or has left, they can continue with the saga.

To do that, however, they must meet in-form Birmingham City this weekend. It could be a huge game for Boro’s promotion chase.
