There was a lot of racing action in the Mid-Atlantic this past week.
Here’s a look at each song’s “three stars”:
THE BEST IN THE REGION

FIRST STAR: QUINT’S BREW. Quint’s Brew won the Jennings Stakes at Laurel Park for the second year in a row on Saturday. Unlike last year’s demolition, he only secured this year’s victory on the final jump. He set the early pace of Blue Kingdom and Maclean’s Rook, remaining third at the top of the stretch as the aforementioned two battled it out. Blue Kingdom eventually dismissed Maclean’s Rook and opened up a clear advantage, but Quint’s Brew started to kick into gear and close into the margins. In the final jump, Quint’s Brew, under strong urging from Yedsit Hazlewood, had the upper hand by a nose. He ran a mile on a fast track in 1:37.37 and improved to a 5-for-9 lifetime mark, never finishing outside the exacta, with earnings of $421,240. He is a private breeder of Paul Berube and Karen Linnell, who own him with Heather Hunter, and is trained by Ned Allard.
SECOND STAR: POINT DUME. A competitive field of nine older male sprinters was later lined up on Laurel’s Saturday card in the Fire Plug Handicap. Point Dume, one of three horses sent off at 3-1, remained in the lead and won by half a length. He made his way to the rail and the lead from post position two, but was immediately collared from the outside by Full Moon Madness, and the two battled it out on the backstretch. At the top of the lane, Full Moon Madness put its head first, while Chipotle loomed large in the four-way and On the Mark looked ready to make a run from the inside. Despite a slew of challenges on all sides, Point Dume dug in and fended off everyone. He won by half a length from Chipotle and then held on after an error against him by On the Mark, who finished fifth. He has now won three of his last five starts and increased his career earnings to $431,900. He is owned by Bush Racing Stable, trained by Tim Kreiser and ridden by Angel Cruz.
THIRD STAR: TAKE THE MONEY HONEY. The first big race of the day at Laurel on Saturday, the Geisha Stakes, had little drama. As expected, Takethemoneyhoney destroyed the field to win by 6 1/4 lengths under a hand ride. She took the lead early but was kept off the rail by Late Night Call, who picked up the pace from the inside. As they rounded the far corner, Takethemoneyhoney finally walked to the rail and opened a long lead without being asked. She touched the wire in 1:38.81 for a mile, with Navani finding herself in second place and Late Nite Call in third. Takethemoneyhoney is now 6-for-8 lifetime, with her two losses coming in photo finishes, and has earned $311,770. She is a private breeder of Kasey K Racing Stable LLC, Michael Day and Final Turn Racing Stable, trained by Michael Moore and ridden by Eliseo Ruiz.

FIRST STAR: QUINT’S BREW. He has already defended his Jennings title; now he seems well prepared to defend his title of General George as well.
SECOND STAR: POINT DUME. Called on all his class and heart for the Fire Plug victory.
THIRD STAR: TAKE THE MONEY HONEY. After her impressive Geisha win, she might just be Barbara Fritchie-bound.
CARELSTAD
FIRST STAR: FIDGETY. He kept the pace high and kicked away late to win a first-level sprint on Thursday for his ninth career victory in 30 starts.
SECOND STARS: RONNEY BROWN AND KEVIN JOY. Both coaches performed hat tricks this week; Brown on Wednesday, Joy on Saturday.
THIRD STAR: OMAR COMIN. Won a first-level route by 4 1/2 lengths on Friday for his third victory in his last six starts.
PARX RACING
FIRST STAR: SHADOW SURGE. Definitely destroyed a starter optional claim field on Tuesday, winning by 11 lengths in the very sharp time of 1:16.21 for 6 1/2 furlongs.
SECOND STAR: WARP NINE. Was off the pace on the rail and converted to win a second level route on Wednesday.
THIRD STAR: PERIDOT PENDANT. Survived an early game to win a first-tier sprint on Tuesday, improving his longevity to a 7-for-17 lifetime.
