Microsoft Retires Outlook Lite: Lightweight E -Mail -App removed from Play Store -Research Snipers

Microsoft pulls the plug on Outlook Lite for Android. The slim e -mail -app with around five million downloads so far disappears from the Play Store. What does this mean for users of older smartphones?

From the slim e -mail -App

Microsoft ended the Outlook Lite app for Android on October 6, 2025, as a group in a message Message Center announced. From this date you can no longer be installed in the Google Play Store. Existing users can continue to use the application for a while before the service is finally switched off.

The decision is part of the strategy to concentrate all sources on the regular Outlook Mobile App. This is considered a central application for Android with a larger number of functions and a better user experience. Microsoft therefore recommends switching to the full version, whose development and support are continued.

Three years after the start is over

Outlook Lite was introduced in September 2022 to offer users with weaker Android devices or a low data volume. With only 5 MB, the app is considerably smaller than the standard version (86 MB) and also ran reliable with 1 GB RAM. With this, Microsoft mainly strived for markets with older devices.

Outlook Lite supports basic functions such as E -mails, agendas and contacts. Initially this was limited to an account, later dark mode, support for multiple accounts and the integration of Google accounts were added. Nevertheless, the Lite version does not differ much from the full version, which gradually lost its original role as a resource rescue alternative.

Focus on the main application

The fully-fledged Outlook Mobile app for Android is still being actively developed and receives updates with new functions, safety improvements and better integration in Microsoft 365 services. It also offers extra functions such as team integration and extensive calendar options. The end for Outlook Lite is part of earlier decisions: Microsoft stopped the OWA apps for iOS and Android in 2018 and also referred to Outlook Mobile.

The group consistently strives to maintain less but more powerful applications. For users who are looking for a simple alternative, the Outlook -Web app remains in the browser. It does not need installation and saves storage space, but still offers similar functions such as mobile use.
