A fellow presenter accidentally kicked the football that hit Strahan in the face
During a demonstration that went wrong on live television, former New York Giants defenseman Michael Strahan was accidentally hit in the face with a wayward football.
The incident, which likely only hurt Strahan’s pride without serious facial injuries, occurred during the October 5 broadcast of Fox NFL Sunday. The broadcast team, which includes former NFL players Strahan, Rob Gronkowski, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Julian Edelman and on-air personalities Curt Menefee and Jay Glazer, gathered to showcase a football game.
As the men were talking about the possibilities of how the play could be performed, they agreed to certain roles on the studio floor, which was a replica of an NFL field. As the men took their respective positions and mimicked the attack on the defense, Edelman, in the role of the kicker, kicked the ball. However, instead of the ball heading towards the goal post, it was kicked weakly, with no real traction, and the ball inadvertently came into contact with Strahan’s face.
Once the accident occurred, Strahan covered his face as his co-hosts, surprised by the blow, laughed, though they followed him to make sure he was okay. As he bent over from the blow, the others teased him about the ball hitting his face. As he collected himself, Strahan said, “I’m about to lose an eyeball, for real, man.”
They continued with the show, as it didn’t seem like Strahan was too bothered by the football hitting his face.
Strahan, who as a member of the Giants was one of the best defensive players in NFL history and was the very first person to receive a coveted star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame dedicated to the Sports Entertainment category.
