UFC veteran Michael Chandler has given his updated thoughts on a potential showdown with Conor McGregor.
Michael Chandler has been calling for a fight against Conor McGregor for years, ever since he first debuted with the promotion. After their season of coaching on The Ultimate Fighter, it looked like the fight was close to being booked. Unfortunately, after a long delay before finally getting him booked, Chandler was left frustrated when Conor had to withdraw from the scheduled match due to injury.
Some felt that Michael Chandler vs. Conor McGregor could happen on the upcoming UFC White House card, but recently Dana White made it clear that they have abandoned that idea and are instead going in a different direction for the Irishman.
Even if that’s the case, Michael remains Chandler recently took the time to discuss the outside possibility of him taking on Conor in the future.
Michael Chandler discusses the Conor McGregor fight
“I still think it’s happening. You can call it crazy, you can call it whatever you want, but until a door is slammed in your face and that door is locked and the key is thrown away, you never give up hope. So we’ll see. There are conversations happening right now and we’ll see how it plays out. I want it to be a big fight that’s indicative of how big the White House is, man.”
“The timing doesn’t really work great, but does he, like Max Holloway for the BMF belt, get past Charles Oliveira? You know, Paddy Pimblett – there’s a whole story where I took that fight on very short notice, coming off an injury, basically coming off the bench, coming out of the rehab room, and making the decision to take that walk again because I wanted to get back in there.
“I wasn’t happy with that performance. I feel like I was kind of a shadow of the fighter I could and should have been… Anyone who is hungry and anyone who can bring me closer to that title. I still believe I have a lot of tread left in the tires.”
