Hernandez suffered a third-round TKO loss to Strickland in a fight he entered as a heavy favorite. Many expected Hernandez to get the job done and enter the title conversation as a middleweight, but it was Strickland who got the job done. Strickland landed a big body shot that hurt Hernandez before showering him with strikes to get the stoppage.
After the loss, Bisping believes Hernandez should drop down to welterweight because he doesn’t think ‘Fluffy’ is a true middleweight.
“’Fluffy’ could probably go to welterweight, that’s my honest opinion,” Bisping said of his YouTube channel on Monday. “He could probably go to welterweight because he’s not the most hard-bodied, maybe a little soft-bodied, and I think that might be the nickname ‘Fluffy’. He might have to work on that because he could be a champion, especially in the welterweight division, especially at middleweight, because the guy had a ridiculous eight-fight winning streak. But you have to make sacrifices.”
Whether Hernandez can actually make it to welterweight is another question. However, Bisping believes that, based on his body size, he believes ‘Fluffy’ could make 170 pounds and thrive in the weight class.
Anthony Hernandez vows to return after loss to Sean Strickland
Before the loss to Strickland, Hernandez had won eight straight fights and looked like a future title contender.
Still, Hernandez thinks that he will come back from this defeat even better after the loss at UFC Houston.
“First of all, thank you to everyone who came,” Hernandez said on his Instagram. “Showing me a lot of love, that was fucking amazing. Players are breaking up. I mean, I was on an eight-fight win streak. It felt like everything was going smoothly until I got hit by a damn body shot. Shit happens. Part of the game. It took six years for someone to finally beat me. I’ll be back.”
Anthony Hernandez is now 15-3 and one NC as a pro after the loss, and is 9-3 in the UFC.
